My new xp won't let me set the fsb any higher than 100 or it will lock trying to load winXP(just after bios and raid screens). At 100 no problems at all other than poor performance. Without changing anything else swapped in t-bird 1.4, it could hit 140, put 1900 back nothing over 100.

system
xp1900+ AGKA 0142MPMW
epox 8KHA+ with newest bios
(2) 256 crucial pc2100
enermax 431 new
promise raid controller
sb live

Temps are good 41c idle maybe up to 45c after a workout.

Are some of these new chips just underperformers or did I just get a dud chip?
Anything I could be doing wrong?
This is also the 2nd MB(dragon +) I have tried this chip in with similar results.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Over at amdmb there is a thread in the Epox forum regarding this exact thing. It seems to be a problem with the BIOS. If you need a linky let me know and I will shoot you one.

I started that post there. I now beleive it isn't a MB problem as I can pop my 1.4 tibird in and it runs fine. I do have the latest bios too.

thanks

Sorry about the old tag lines.

I am trying to run an Xp1900+ but I can't get it to work at over 100fsb, if I trun it up any higher locks up trying to load winXp.

I am now running my old t-bird 1.4 in the same setup at 140fsb with no problems, until I can find out what is wrong with the xp1900 or return it next week.

Any other help would be appreciated

Thanks,

Just bought the XP1800 to go on my unused Epox 8K7A+ board. If anyone got experience with this can they give me some tips. I suppose I can immediately upgrade BIOS before anything is installed???

Rcoe: Was WinXP installed before you popped in your XP 1900? I dunno if this will fix your problem in your case, but try re-installing WinXP. It may be having problems recognizing the cpu.

millsy: Yes, do flash your BIOS first.

Millsy definitely flash your bios to the newest version from epox before doing anything. It is very easy to do. I had alot of problems doing the initial boot from cd for XP until I updated the bios.

Sandorsky, I installed XP with the 1900 in, but with the jumper at 100 and switched the jumper after the install was done. I am going to re-install windows tonight with the 1900 set at 133 as the last resort before I send it back defective.

Thanks,

That was the problem I re-flashed the bios and re-installed XP with the jumper in the 133 slot. I am currently running FSB of 145 and it has been rock stable for the last day and a half. I have been beating the hell out of it with various programs without so much as a hiccup.

As far as the intel question, I am not afraid to spend money, but why waste it. My system will spank most any p4 out there for alot less money.
