1700+ (0302) for $61 shipped at excaliberpc, easy :)

This chip is guaranteed for super overclocking.

Maybe off topic - don´t know...

I have a 1800XP+ (palomino) currently on a AK32 v2.1 board from Shuttle.
What MoBo should I get to be able to get some more juice out of my CPU?

imo, i'd get the 1700+
and to answer your question, Clauzii
i don't think a new mobo will help your overclock as Palomino's are generally poor overclockers

what happened to the "same price" heck, if it's off by $20 bucks, then tthe 1700xp would be the better choice.

Get the 0302.... first choice. All said, it is $16 difference but it is up to you. Both good chips.

OIC...they seem to be selling some others with different stepping for 72. Are those suppose to be better overclockers??

I just got my XP2100 from Googlegear.com for $84 with Free Shipping. It is a 0301 stepping supposedly an XP2600 downgrade. I bumped my FSB to 166 and my Multiplier to 13 at stock 1.6 voltage and it cruises at XP2700+ speed without a problem. I haven't tried anything higher but can't wait too.
Go with Googlegear, they shipped fast and free, and the chip is awesome.
Just my 2 sense
Good Luck

It has been my understanding that the 1700 will generally give a greater % overclock, but the 2100 will generally reach a higher speed.

XP1700 overclocks better if you can get the newer week steppings (ie 0310). SHimmism/bgeh both have 0310's running over 2400MHZ.:)

imo, the 0310's looks like the best overlockers currently
i've seen relatively few 0309's and 0311's, but their overclocks look dissapointing

Why not a 2400+?

They are in my opinion great value right now. You will get 2 guaranteed ghz's at default voltage for $91 shipped. (check pricewatch.com)

The 2400+ will give you on average 200+ more megahertz compared to a 1700+. Plus you won't have to spend half your life looking for the right stepping.
And last but not least: you won't have to fiddle with unlocking multipliers!!

not necessarily

you can get a guaranteed 0310 from excaliber for $72 that will do more than 2.0 ghz @ default voltage...

i think most can do above 2.1 ghz @ default and even some have been able to do 2.2 ghz @ default...

1700+ = best bang for your buck at the moment....

if you want pure speed (highest o/c possible), i'd get a 2600+ 266 fsb version.... some of these have been able to hit 2.6 to 2.7 ghz on air

EDIT: btw... 1700+ are doing 2.3 to 2.4 on air now as compared to 2.2 to 2.3 before...

you can probably get the same amount out of a 2400+ but you're paying like 20 bucks more...

but hey, whatever floats your boat..

hey Shimmi

Check the database over at overclockers.com.. 2400+ average = 2354 mhz.. 1700+ is 2087.. Ofcourse that is t-bred a included.. But I still believe the 2400+ will on average give you about 200 mhz more.

But that's me.

I've got an XP1700 that won't post beyond 1900 (think that's 1.6GHz), and an XP1500 that can boot at 1800 (1.53GHz?), but it causes problems with my WinTV-PVR 350; it's at 1700 now, and running good. Both are Palomino's.

On the Tbred issue - I've got an XP2100 I got on the forums; it's at 2600 right now. There's also an XP1700 on the way from Googlegear - it should be here any minute now actually. Both are Tbred B's (at least Googlegear's site says that of the XP1700).
