The P4 Seems to be just about 2x faster than the AMD.
Not just at Seti -
I have been converting DVD to MPEG so I can watch my Red Dwarf on the Pocket PC.
On my AMD system it takes 46 minutes to convert a 1 GB VOB file.
On the Intel box it takes only 23 minutes per GB!!
So it does 2x the number of seti WU's per day and it converts DVD to Mpeg in half the time per GB.
Not bad!!!
Now I want one of my own, so I can get truly radical with the OC (2.8 @ 3.6 isn't truly radical, since I am still using the retail HSF ;))

Wiz, You have peaked my interest! I have a Compaq iPAQ and would like to know what you are using to be able to crunch a movie so that it fit on a PocketPC. Will the software on the PocktPC play it without additions?

So that I don't totally hijack the thread, I'd also like to know the $ per WU on the two boxes? I would think the P4 setup might be twice that of the XP. I am looking at this as a nude cruncher that is dedicated to DC. So, a lot of the extras like DX9 video, case, etc. would not count. Current high memory prices might tilt the numbers though.

Yes, thanks a lot Wiz!! Those programs look very handy!
The program Max Movie maker 3 (from your last link) looks very good!
Unfortunatly it isn't freeware... And I don't plan on buying such programs though..

This are very biased findings. Get two processors from the different brands at the same speed and benchmark those. I would do an XP Mobile at 2.4Ghz to keep up with the 2.4C so Intel fans don't complain.

I think your missing the point :p

He wasn't making a direct comparison between CPUs but between an older rig & a new one

unless you do massive amounts of video editing, the p4 HT's are better suited to the job, my 2500+ @ 2800+ encodes a 4GB mpg to .vob's in about 30-35 min. (I'm told the same software on a 2.8Ghz P4 has a 40-45% speed improvement when HT is enabled) I know a lady who has a dual 1.8Ghz g5 mac w/4GB of ram and her's will do a 4GB conversion in about 10min. It has a lot to do with the software you're using, I use Ulead Movie Factory 2.0, she was using a $6000 Pinnacle Studio Suite. (at the same time her software could also do a whole lot more stuff to the video)

(Shameless plug) If anybody knows anyone who wants thier home vhs and mini-vhs tapes converted to DVD give 'em my e-mail addy (see profile) I do them for $10 for the 1st DVD and $5 per each extra copy, plus any shipping/packing. (end Shameless plug)
