I was at my buddy's house last night looking at his new server. I ran CPUID to checkout some of the specs when we noticed it reported the processor running at 907 MHz. He is not trying to OverClock. He was shocked because it was supposed to be a 1.2 GHz AMD Thunderbird CPU. He showed me the retail box the CPU came in and told me it was not previously opened...came sealed in the clear wrap.

He is running Windows2000 Server.

Anyone ever hear of such? What should he do?

It just occurred to me that his motherboard may need a BIOS update. I'll have to call him and have him check that out.

Any other ideas?

Thanks BA, I believe you hit it right on the head. I've got a call in for him right now. I bet you are right!

That's probably it. I was looking at my SETIQueue at OrangeKid's and hey, why are the WU times in the 9-hour range...? I ran Wintop expecting to find some virus sucking up time... nope. Rebooted and it says "Athlon 700MHz" at POST. Sure enough, the BIOS needed to be bumped back to 133/133. WU times are back to the sub-5-hour range again. ;)

Dang Tom, how long was it running at the wrong FSB?

Hate those lost SETI Work Units (or at least the ones that could have been done). ;)

This is one of the most commonly asked questions on these forums. Seems like every day I see a post about this.

So, be on the lookout for the next one and help them out, too. They should really consider adding the question to the FAQ's.
