Amber Alerts - Get notified on your Cell Phone

Wife just passed this along to me. I had no idea this service existed. Sign up if you want and get notified any time there's a child abduction type alert in your area.

Why was the Wireless AMBER Alerts Initiative created?

Statistics show the first three hours after a child's abduction are most critical to recovery efforts. Recognizing that wireless technology can help galvanize communities to assist law enforcement in the search for and return of the child, the membership of CTIA-The Wireless Association?, The Wireless Foundation, the United States Department of Justice and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children are honored to offer the Wireless AMBER Alerts Initiative.

By combining the efforts of the wireless industry with NCMEC and law enforcement agencies, the Wireless AMBER Alerts Initiative will be a catalyst for the more than 200 million wireless subscribers to aid in the return of an abducted child.

Why? While I think the Amber Alerts are a good thing, I certainly don't want to be notified on my cell phone via text message every time one is issued.

That's actually pretty cool. Thanks!

BTW-You can thank CA for Amber alerts. 😉

I wish they turn the signals off when there is no alert. People just stop and read the signal to notify them they are minutes away from the next route which makes the traffic in Cali even worse. Fcuking annoying!

You don't want to know when someone in your area gets abducted? You might be driving right next to the person they are looking for.

And it's just a text message so you can just delete it if you don't want it.

Text me if someone robs a liquor store. Or if a man beats his wife. Or if someone runs a red light. Actually, please don't, because I don't really care about any of it. I might sound like an asshole but at least I'm honest.

I agree that the Amber Alerts are good things and have helped find lots of missing kids. I just don't want to be notified every time it happens. the television and radio stations already blast the airwaves with the information, PLUS, Kahleeforneeya has the freeway signs every so many miles (in many parts) so I see these when I'm on the roadway.
It's stuff like this that makes me keep texting totally disabled on my phone.

I agree, it's annoying when you are into a tv show and the audio goes away to be replaced with this AMBER alert stuff. Yes, I'm sitting in my house, and I was wondering who this child is thats sitting on my couch with me. Thank God they are broadcasting it on tv. Seriously, they need to put this on the signs on highways and on the radio. First off, I'm not going to remember the license plate of the alert thats played on the tv if I head out the door an hour or two later. Secondly, I'm not going to write down the information and run out the door searching for said license number. Weather Alerts are put on TV, I'm ok with that, because most people want to know when something that could affect them. AMBER alerts on tv don't affect people in their homes.
