Ambassador Delenn was supposed to be a man.

Delenn was originally supposed to be a male character destined to become female at the end of season 1, but since they couldn't make Mira Furlan's voice male enough, they decided to play her as a pure female in the series.

I never knew this. So, I watched "The Gathering" pilot again and indeed her makeup was very masculine looking. She looked pretty different once the regular season started.

Her makeup and bone structure in the very first couple episodes was much more pronounced. It looked like a lot of work. By Ep 3 or 4 they had already begun to soften it a whole lot and she already looked more human even before the cocoon.

I found even more interesting stuff from the pilot The Gathering.
Ed Wasser who would go on to play Mr. Morden is actually a tech on the command deck of B5.
Also, when Lyta is scanning Kosh and viewing the phony Sinclair greeting him just before poisoning him, Kosh reaches out to shake his hand and says, "Entil'zha Valen". I never thought of it but Kosh would have known that Sinclair was Valen and would also lead the Rangers.(btw this is on the "special" edition version so it could be a Greedo shot first revision)

What Delenn (Mira Furan) really used to look like.
Born in 1955 so if my math correct she was in her 40s during B5.

Aye her and Ivanova were not too bad to look at. Mira has beautiful eyes that always have a hint of sadness and vulnerability.

i just figured the makeup had evolved between the pilot and the end of the first season. imo, transsexual delenn is much stranger than transspecies delenn.

despite the network dicking over the show, and JMS' mistakes, B5 is 1 of the greatest sci-fi shows of all time. particularly koenig and wasser were amazing in their roles. also, half of hollywood appeared on the show at some point, including William Morgan Sheppard at least twice. the (mostly) fantastic performances of the actors is why the show should never be re-made with or without the screw-ups.

It's a man, baby!

B5 is still one of my favorite series, though it had problems: the occasional bad, flowery speeches, the two-dimensional bad guys, and most of season 5, but it's strengths (acting, multi-year story arc, politics) mostly overcame it's weaknesses. To this day, every time Ron Moore launches a series (Deep Spacec 9, Andromeda, Battlestar Galactics remake) I can tell he must have liked the series too, since he keeps ripping off concepts from B5.

Bring back Babylon 5! Not a reboot, but a continuation.

Koenig's probably too old now but a Telepath War series woulda been nice.

Are you kidding? They brought Star Wars back and now it's retarded and boring. They brought Star Trek back and now it's all spectacle and hip. They both made a lot of money and they both have a lot of fans, but nothing can replace or even continue the original. It's gone, appreciate it for what it was and let writers do what they do well, making new IP. Good stories do come out of old universes from time to time, but for every time that does happen we get about nine halfassed flops.

Remember Legend of the Rangers? Remember Crusade? I think we're lucky with what we got, and hope B5 gets left alone. I would appreciate it if WB would remaster the show, since they thought ahead and shot the show in high-def, and they just needed money to update the effects, but WB half-assed the DVD sets. That's what I heard, anyway.

It's not on amazon prime. Lame. Totally forgot this series existed. I'm almost all out of watching every single other Scifi show. Never seen it, I want to watch this next.

Well, I liked the SW prequels from a certain point of view, they were not as serious as I would have liked but meh. And ALL movies are going to be done with the focus that movies have taken, so I guess I'd rather they still be set in my favorite universes otherwise it will just be new crappy movies.

That said, one thing is, B5 would be a TV show. Seems like those have a better chance to be treated right, I mean, Battlestar Galactica was really gritty which was nice.

Interesting thing is, as I type this I am watching the Star Trek ENterprise episode with John Vickery (Neroon) as the Klingon prosecutor. If Michael O'Hare hadn't died, a Valen series back 1000 years ago would have been nice.

"I'd like to live just long enough to be there when they cut off your head and stick it on a pike as a warning to the next ten generations that some favors come with too high a price. I would look up into your lifeless eyes and wave, like this. Can you and your associates arrange that for me, Mr. Morden?"

I'd love to see B5 on Blu, but the CGI stuff is all lost so they'd have to redo everything from scratch. And while they did it with Star Trek, I don't think B5's fanbase is large enough to justify the expense or effort. It barely made it to DVD.

Amazing show, but one of the worst DVD releases of the past decade.

also note in the pilot episode that Garibaldi's voice is very nasal and high pitched.

My favorite minor character:

Zathras is used to being beast of burden to other peoples needs. Very sad life, probably have very sad death but at least there is symmetry

You leave, Zathras die. You take Zartas die. Either way is very bad for Zathras.

Nobody ever listens to poor Zathras.

This. Not on netflix either.

I'm almost finished with DS9 and pondering what to do next.
