Amazon Valentines Day Sale: up to 75% off a bunch of titles

They have Super Street Fighter 4 on sale. Anybody know how this holds up on PC? Is there any sort of following in multiplayer or are people pretty much consoles only for this?

I think it is kind of funny that they have a sale on Video games on V-day. Mostly it is women who get the gifts, and they want flowers or candy or jewelry. not Video games. I guess the marketing folks are really getting desparate.

They are playing to the stereotype that gamers are lonely, single men.

If you read the tagline for the sale the games were chosen because there's multiplayer. It's supposed to be games you can play with your valentine. OnLive ran a similar promo. Kind of a stretch IMHO.

Think it was a woman who put "lonely" and "single" together as a way to make guys feel bad for not wanting to commit and spend their resources on someone else.

Guys can be lonely and married.

And single isn't a negative.

Think the proper stereotype is: happy, single guys. 🙂

Not to get off topic, but have you ever met a gamer who said: "Man, playing games isn't fun. They make me feel so lonely and unfulfilled, but I can't do anything else. Wish I could get a partner and stop playing games forever."

And yeah, I got divorced a couple years back. Since then I've had more disposable income (gasp!), more fun -- it's a candy store out there, more freedom to do what/who I want and more time to game if I want. Hmm, you're right. It's lonely at the top. Guess I am a lonely, single guy.

Or if you're in the doghouse because you messed up Valentine's Day, you might as well play a new game.

Um, if you are in the Dog house, the LAST thing you should be doing is play games. You better be doing everything in your power to get out of the dog house.

And yeah, probably targeting single men. Only that is by no means the entire demographic. Least wise, I am not among that group. Nor are most of my friends (men and women), yet they are mostly avid gamers.

I'm pretty sure that everyone that plays World of Warcraft has said this at some point or another. The entire game is designed around the idea that the player base is lonely and unfulfilled and so will keep repeating the same quests over and over just to have an excuse to talk to a few other people for a few hours.

Some very good deals for those who don't have them yet, like Burnout Paradise $5, Dungeon Defenders $3, Borderlands GOTY $7, Battlefield Bad Company Vietnam $4.

Funny - I just read about that Lead and Gold game in an old magazine; it's kind of intriguing.

Whatever you choose to buy stay far away from that Tiger Woods 12 game. It's not the console version, only an off-line mode for Tiger Woods online.

I got magicka and was able to add it to steam. In general I was able to add everything except EA games. (Deus Ex added nicely as well)

Valentine's Day is (theoretically) a two-way street. Obviously men are expected to do more than women, but I still saw women buying Valentine's Day cards at the grocery store the other day.

So maybe a guy spends $20 on a card, flowers, and/or chocolates for his girl, but many women want to find good gifts for their men. Sale-priced video games are a good option (play them on a different day 🙂 )

So drawing absolutely no conclusions about your own life from your statements.....

Personally, I see V-Day as a hallmark holiday. and one specifically attenuated to Women. Every year I end up spending a wad of cash on my Wife for the holiday and when she asks me what I want, I say "To make you happy". Because, quite frankly, if she is happy, nothing she is going to give me is going to make my life better. And if she is un-happy, I am in a world of hurt.

I have a lady friend who was asking me what she should get her boyfriend for V-Day. And I told her the same. it is more about what he gets you. She kept on pestering me for ideas and then finally got him power tools. She told me that he said "Why did you get me anything?"

After polling the mostly female employees of Hallmark, its a holiday for women, not couples.

.

With every rule, there is an exception (except that one). And within every demographic there are outliers.

Just saying that the target market for the particular promotion Amazon was performing seems to me to be a lot smaller than would normally be thought of as significant enough for a promotion. Just doing the math here.

In any event, nothing in the list that I was that interested in anyway. So no loss there. 🙂

Heh, that's why I said theoretically. I agree that there's not a whole lot my wife can do to make me happier than just being happy herself. If I want something I just buy it... if it's more than a few bucks, I ask her first. Makes it kind of hard to get gifts for me.

But hey, if you have a woman who does want to do things for her man on V-day, why discourage that? Theoretically, that's the whole point of feminism - equality!
