USPS reports to Amazon Prime delivery package delivered to my home at 4:14PM. Hmm, the USPS Jeep hadn't even entered my home until after 4:40 PM. I work a lot from home and my home office faces the street. My home is opposite the 7th home to get mail when the USPS Jeep enters out neighborhood.

How does USPS make delivery before arriving to make delivery? If that ain't enough to be confusing then check this out. The bar code on the package is for tracking. USPS knows where package should be going and I catch the USPS carrier while still in my neighborhood and she tells me their scanner records where the package is delivered--no difference if that was a correct delivery or not.

So, why does the USPS bar code scanner not alert the carrier when they are delivering something to an address other than the one it is supposed to go to? Well, that would take brains, no? So she says when she's done with her route, which this one isn't her normal route, she'll go back to annex, download information to find out where she misdelivered the item, go collect it and deliver it to me.

Anyone buying into that? I'm not. I've had >15 years of USPS misdeliveries over the years. Argued with annex manager, even had him replaced and still this is a typical level of performance whenever my regular carrier is off. Most things are now electronic (bills, etc.) with some packages going to a USPS box, but then there are those times like this one.

Someone will enjoy that Samsung EVO 850 Pro 500GB SSD. Just not me.

BTW, why have a scanner and system that knows where to deliver and knows where it was delivered not have the intelligence to electrocute carrier when they attempt a misdelivery?

You would think that the scanner would cross-verify with a GPS system so that it knows it's in the wrong place and sound a buzzer.

I know that one of the UPS drivers around here says the package is delivered anywhere from 45-75 mins before it is actually delivered.

I asked him one day why did I get the delivery notification 45 mins ago, and he said "Time crunch" and left.

This past weekend, I ran into a similar problem. My package was shown to be delivered in my locked mailbox. I checked it twice, and there was no package whatsoever.

I went on Amazon to report a lost package. (For the record, they make it very difficult to report a lost package.) I also went on CL to see if someone was selling the combination of items I ordered. I found instructions saying that before I report a problem, I should wait a couple of days to see if it shows up. Sure enough, the next day the package showed up in my mailbox.

I suspect that the USPS is reporting shipments in advance so that it looks like they are on time.

They're not supposed to enter your home. Do you have a new mailbox in a package in your home? They may be smelling it and trying to deliver to it. I would put some of those traffic bollards up to keep them at bay.

I live on the corner of 2 streets (cul-de-sac). My address is on the cul-de-sac street, yet my mailbox and driveway come in on the main road....I don't have my address visibly marked anywhere.

I probably miss 2-3 deliveries a year and receive some from the cul-de-sac on the other block once every 2 years that I have to hand deliver....it happens. A few weeks ago, I got the delivery notification and had a neighbor from down the block bring me the items I ordered....I wasn't worried because it wasn't anything I needed right away and probably $10 in value. Just file with Amazon in a few days when you can.

After lunch today I went to the most likely address that the package was misdelivered to. Two young men were standing out front and one of them believes the package I am looking for was delivered to them yesterday. However, they were not inclined to hand over the package. I left and then managed to make it home in time for my regular letter carrier to come by. I told her what happened and she said the USPS will do nothing "until you bitch to the postal supervisor at their annex." She apologized for the mistake of the person filling in for her yesterday as that temp made a lot of mistakes.

Now I have to drive over to the postal annex, and as directed bitch to the postal supervisor and "demand that he goes and collects the package" and deliver it accordingly. Now I am waiting on doing just that, but so far Amazon isn't inclined to help me even though I have informed my confirmation of the package going to the wrong addressed and the individuals there not willing to release it to me. Way to go Amazon! Fuck over your customers.

USPS does this a lot to me. I don't even bother looking at their tracking updates. When I emailed Amazon before about this, they say wait a day or so and your package should get there.

The tracking barcode on parcels isn't for the address it just identifies the package. The scanner just records that that package is at that location. Some people may need refresher training to scan things as enroute and not delivered until the actual delivery.

Any carrier or delivery person who can't read a delivery address on a label shouldn't have that job. Problems occur when a mailbox doesn't have the address on a label on the mailbox and a substitute carrier is on a route.

On a tangent, I feel pretty bad for my Post Office delivery guy. He just unloaded a bunch of laser printers for me from his tiny little mail truck. Usually it's UPS doing the delivering, but he said USPS is cheaper now & does the last mile for them & others, especially Amazon, so he's stuck doing package delivery now. Previously they only did little things...it's not like they have a big truck available (I get tons of shipments in regularly for my IT projects).

On the flip side, I hate USPS' awful tracking system. I miss UPS already :(

I gambled and went to the most likely location of the misdelivery. Spoke to two young men out front that looked like they were waiting for something to happen and I mean this not in a good way. They said they thought something might have arrived yesterday from Amazon, but that they couldn't help me and to try their mother around 5PM. I left and went over to the postal annex and explained my problem and when I mentioned yesterday's letter carrier the woman's response was like she needed a vacation. Apparently a lot of peoples' mail was misdelivered yesterday.

The person I spoke with then got the annex manager and he brought me into the facility. I explained again, gave the tracking number and he pulled up exactly where the item was delivered, which was right where I gambled. I said I stopped there before arriving at the annex and couldn't get it from them and he said he would have a letter carrier go over and try to get it. But he also said failing that the only option I would have is getting Amazon to ship another one. USPS takes no responsibility.

That was supposed to have happened at 5PM and it is now 7:30PM and nothing delivered to me. Mind you the address of the misdelivery is only 3/4 mile from me and the annex another 1/2 mile. So, I go back to the misdelivery address and find that they not only opened the shipping carton but also opened the product packaging. I refused to take it. The name and address is clearly on the label.

So, now home and Amazon is asking me to select option #1 cancel order and refund money, or #2 to redo the order/shipment. I'm frustrated; I'm just going to go buy the damn thing from Microcenter store 20 miles from me.

Ugh, that's awful. I have a lot of USPS misdeliveries in my area. I get my neighbor's mail at least twice a month. I am NOT a fan of Amazon using the post office for deliveries at all...UPS has been extremely good for me over the years.

I would be willing to pay extra on my annual Prime bill to guarantee UPS delivery.

I don't usually get misdeliveries, but I do get a good number of late deliveries with Amazon. Amazon even managed to lose my Vive Deluxe Audio Strap, which is rather hard to find.

As for some sort of GPS tracking to ensure proper delivery... keep in mind that the USPS has been having some rather big money issues over the past few years. Asking for anything too involved might just not be fiscally viable for them. Although, they did add a new feature that sends me images of all the mail that I will receive each day. :p

USPS is being paid extra by Amazon for handling Amazon Prime deliveries. This isn't a misdelivery based on an every day delivery, but one in which they are being paid a premium to do.

I hate all the Amazon-->some carrier---->USPS for delivery.

Ordered something that comes in a box that is 7'2" long. Tracking showed it was delivered to USPS the next day. I got a notice in the mail box they would NOT deliver due to size, but I could pick it up the next day :mad:
Well a 7'2" by 18" box ain't going to fit in my VW, so NO!

Called Amazon, raised hell, and had one shipped next day FedEx, which was delivered the next morning. (At no cost to me)

Kept getting notices in mailbox to pickup the one at the post office.... still NFW and finally that if I didn't pick it up, they would return it to Amazon.

Amazon shipped me another one with explicit instructions for the carrier and thankfully my regular letter carrier was working and I got it. I also printed out the UPS shipping label to send back the other shipment which had been completely opened.

At this rate I'll have a Prime account not paid for until 2020 son.
