Yes, it's been this way for a long while now. Amazon Underground and the totally free apps has been around two years now.

If you read the long list of permissions for the Underground app you would understand why they are "free". I guess it's ok if you have a device just for this purpose. I use a 7" Fire tablet I got on sale for $35. I just can't get into mobile gaming.

Huh? The permissions seem to be exactly the same for the amazon version vs. the play store versions so I'm not sure what you're getting at.

Actually I just found a way to sign up to prime on a monthly plan and saw it scrolling around, thought Id post it for others if they missed it like I did ;)

And just how does that make it ok?

The older amazon app store needed less permissions to function.

My point was these games aren't really free.

You made it sound like these permissions were specific to Amazon, which they aren't. They're the exact same permissions for Amazon as they would be if you paid money for them on the play store, so they're "free" compared to the play store's immediate cost of buying the app in the first place.

If you want to argue why Android needs so many permissions in general that's fine, but Hot Deals is not the place to do it as it's not specific to this deal.
