Amazon Unbox is a mess

Isn't there an AT member who works on Unbox? Hopefully they see this post...

I just did a clean install of the retail version of Vista today and decided to try and rent a movie.

First, I tried to download the client with Firefox 2.0.0.1 - got a message saying I didn't have permission to access it. I had to open Internet Explorer to get the file.

Second, the video player is incompatible with Vista in Aero mode and neither it or the web site were any help in figuring out what was wrong - I had to try different things until I realized it would work in Basic mode.

The final version of Vista has been available for businesses for how long already? There's no excuse for this to be broken.

No wonder iTunes is winning.

Usability nightmare - spacebar is pause. Esc is exit full screen. Except when I pause, and then try to exit full screen, it goes to a window and starts rewinding the film. WTF.

Unbox was doomed to fail from the start. I think you might be the only person on all of anandtech that actualy tried to use it.

i agree... it was a good idea and i personally think wmv is a much better encoding codec than what apple uses (from a quality perspective) but their software is way too limiting.

i will be interested to see what live marketplace does because its a much better integrated system (but i still hate the fact that you cant transfer stuff off the 360 but their quality is tons better than any other service out there). but they need to keep improving the marketplace with new content (still they have done quite a bit already in the span of 3 months since it launched so i am hopeful they get more good contnet). and they really need to make a media center/vista version to interface with it as well. To me that could be a killer app if ms does it right (one store for your vista computer, media center, zune and xbox 360). And since they mark what you have downloaded and let you download it for free permenantly they could blow away itunes in one swoop (or atleast force apple to implement a similar policy)

im personally never going to buy tv stuff on itunes..... until they go HD. their quality right now blows compared to the 360 live marketplace. And their lack of marking bought files annoys me (esp when you use live marketplace and realize how useful it is)
