So I've got my 5 items for this months S&S finally but their website has always been a bit unclear on what I'd be paying. Here's what it shows in my S&S page:
?
Nestle Minis Assorted Christmas Bag, 21.5 Ounce
Current price: $6.36 ($0.30 / oz) after 20% discount.
Here's what my invoice says when I go to it from my orders:
Item(s) Subtotal: $3.38
Shipping & Handling: $0.00
Promotion applied: -$0.68
-----
Total before tax: $2.70
Estimated tax to be collected: $0.07
-----
Grand Total: $2.77

No way I'd ever pay $6+ for this, I bought this only as a filler and to fill up my office candy bowl.

Yeah I haven't quite progressed to this step yet. Maybe for like TP & canned tuna or something. They need to add a previous order analyzer to take the guesswork out of figuring out what I actually use :D

On a few S&S items I've had where the price went up, they e-mail me a notification.

The current price on it is 7.95 - so 20% off that is 6.36. If your order shipped today, that's what you'd be paying.

In your order history, what date was that order from? If you go to camelcamelcamel to get the pricing history on it, it shows it turned 3.38 on 12/22. So appears that the price increase just happened today (or at least recently since camelx3 updated its pricing history).

My s&s order was placed a week ago or so when the price was 3ish. From my 2nd quote

never did S&S as I would be afraid the price might jump and I wouldn't want to pay for an item at that price.

agreed :D I usually set the recurrence to 6 months and cancel my S&S order after it ships out. I'm a penny pincher lol

Amazon's being sneaky with this. I went to buy phosphatidylserine today and Amazon PRE-SELECTED the subscribe & save option. If I hadn't been paying attention I'd find myself being auto-billed every month. >:{

Wonder how many accidental subscribers Amazon's raking in now.

I did it for Phase8 protein drink for a few months. Price went up a buck or two about month 4, then I cancelled. Never had an issue and the pricing was straightforward, I thought.

I'm in the same boat as the OP. I get between 5-10 items monthly with s&s and I'm never 100% clear on what they are charging me. They send me a stupid and confusing paper invoice for every item with messed up prices...

The main time it differs is when first signing up sure to coupons etc. To know for sure, look for the open order, if it has been created yet.
