I needed some knives and ordered this set. From the research i did on them it seems they are just about the best to get if you don't want to spend more that $30. Does anyone have this set of asian made name-brand knives? I've been looking off and on for awhile now and really hadn't seen a set for around 25-30 dollars that i liked so thought i'd take a chance on these. What do you think of this set of knives from macy's .macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=20965&CategoryID=3281?

I don't own any of them but a month or two ago when Amazon had a smaller set on clearance I considered getting some. Read acustomer review on the Amazon website and the owner said they were a real POS. Said they would not hold an edge and were almost impossible to keep from rusting.

While the "real" Sabatier (European made) has a great reputation, I decided to stand clear of the cheapos. JMO.

I think a point is being missed here. I bought these knives a few weeks ago and have enjoyed them greatly. They have the weight and feel of a more expensive set. Now if you ask do I think the $240 price is misleading, I would say yes. But for the price they are being offered, I would say it is a great deal that can not be passed up. :)

I have tried over 4-5 sets in the last three years.

Those so called "Diswasher Safe" knife sets that rust in the diswasher or those Bakelite handles with rivets that have sharp spots.

To date, the best I have come accross are a set that I purchased at Sams Club B&M.
The are a 8pc. Cutlery Set made under the name 5-Star Gourmet.
The have a 3 rivet handle with a forged stainless steel blade and a full tang.
The handles are machined very well and the rivets do not stick out.
They are very well balanced.

Another nice feature is that it has a "Quality" one piece wood block.

I think I paid about $35.00 for the set and after 5 months. I was so satisfied I picked up a couple for relatives for x-mas.

They were delighted.

And remember, Sams Club has a 90 days return policy!
You can't go wrong!!!! ;)

I hate to use the old addage(sp?), but "you get what you pay for". I bought a set of knives from amazon a while that where a few hundred bucks marked way down, and they are not the greatest quality either....

I bought the two-piece carver set and the bread knife in past weeks when they were on sale... decent quality. I haven't had them long enough to speak to the ling term reliability.

The question may be moot... they are out of stock.

If they were really 90% off, Amazon should be charging like $3.00 for them. I'm sure it's a fine set for $30, but as everyone said, don't expect the quality of a $240 set like Henkels. There is a reason those cost so much. I do love mine.

WTF?
Isn't Hi-Carbon Stainless Steel an oxymoron? I always thought it was either-or.

Argh.. I think I paid like $90 for this set at BB&B back in August. They have held up pretty well, and I'd recommend them to someone looking for their first decent set of knives..
