In an attempt to pay it forward, I've recently decided to start writing Amazon reviews for the products that I purchase. I rely heavily on these reviews, and figured that the least I could do it put together a few sentences upon receiving/using my products. I've heard that some folks from time to time will receive products to review from vendors on Amazon -- has anyone here ever been sent such an offer? What was the experience like?

I've seen ads for companies that do this. They are usually for cheap stuff like USB cables, though. Your review is probably more valuable then the 50 cent cables they sent you to review.

I've kinda wondered this too. Sometimes you'll see the reviews that say the person was given some product in request for an honest (lulz) review. I review maybe 50% of what I order, if I can remember. I normally wait a couple months or some time before doing it because a review of something you just took out of the box isn't very good, except to comment on how it was packaged (who cares).

Amazon needs better, and persistent, filters for reviews. I only want to see reviews from verified purchasers plus no reviews of donated for a review things!

The Verified Purchaser thing is easy to get around, they have you purchase the product and reimburse you with paypal or something.

You'd think they'd issue a special promo/coupon code, so you could acquire it for a pittance.
