They have been talking about Bethesda, right? lol, "See! we've demolished a bunch of park space to run this ~2 decades-long purple line project that will just be perfect for new Amazon HQ!. The streets are crap and riddled with holes, the traffic doesn't move here already, but look we have this purple line coming in 2022-2056, give or take!"

At the old White Flint Mall area, which was demolished recently except lord and taylor.
 
It would increase the quality of life. Every major study that looks at dense cities shows improved quality of life and reduced resources per person.

If everyone is better off, why do you care that someone gets wealthy?

How about a link to these every major studies?
 
That's a smart move as multi-family units is a great way to rapidly and efficiently increase the housing stock. From my experience the primary inhibitor of development is zoning restrictions and NIMBYism. California may be taking radical steps to eliminate these and I think other states should look into similar measures.

It does make a lot of sense but the housing market is still messy. My sister is a realtor and says many homes are going for well over asking price. There is a shortage of affordable 3 bedroom 2 bath homes that many first time home buyers are looking for. The average home price in Denver is $488k and will be over $500k by summer. It goes up about 2% per month. If Amazon comes in the prices will get even crazier.
 
Hey that's great if you do own a home..

People in rural areas complain there is no economic development or jobs. People in cities complain that all the economic development cause congestion and crowding. Nobody's every happy!

Live in the rural and work from home for a place in the city. Winning.

oh wow, that would be a disaster: 495 and 270, 355, the ghastly Rockville Pike. I drive through there every other weekend or so and the weekend traffic is already maddening. ...is that space large enough for this sort of thing? I only moved here in recent years so I'm not familiar with the White Flint history, but I have caught some of the reporting about it in local news casts.

Oh yeah forgot about that housing prices should go way up. And if it happens to be the place they are talking about thats about a mile away for where I live. And since I retire soon fuck this place I changed my mind! Wall to wall hi-reises I don't care. Come to Montgomery county Amazon! White Flint is the best! please please please...
 
Assuming that it brings in money, could they not just expand and grow? There might be some growing pains in the short run, but I would imagine the city could just grow.

There technically is plenty of land, but not enough water. Water is the big issue here just like most of the Southwest.
 
The truly huge bribes being offered have to play a big part. I mean 5 billion, 7 billion-that's just insane corporate welfare.
I honestly believe that will factor into this as well and history shows us that the return on each of those dollars will be quite low.

Probably not enough discussion about that. I imagine we are one bad year away from it becoming a very noticeable problem. Last time I checked water tap fees are about $30,000 for each new home. That just seems crazy to me.
