So I am looking for a new phone and I stumble upon This at Amazons site.

It says below that you can only get this price if..

Your price paid includes an equipment discount of $250 that has been provided to you in exchange for either activating a new, non-substitute line of service or renewing an existing line of service with Cingular

So does this mean that if I already have a plan with cingular and I just agree to extend my contract for another 2 years or something that I can get this phone at this price?

What am I missing? Has anyone done this before?

Thanks

Thats what I was thinking, that since I already have a contract all I have to do is renew it and I get the phone at that price.

I guess I will have to call amazon or cingular in the morning.

Well I did a little more poking around and I think you have to do an upgrade. Which means I need to be 10 months into a 12 month contract or 22 months into a 24 month contract.

I am neither, but I will call just to make sure.

I guess I should edit the OP to ask one question.

Can I get this phone at this price if I extend my contract with cingular? It says something that leads me to believe that, I bolded it in the OP.

I'm not really sure what you mean by that last part...

I am going to use it with my existing calling plan, and also for all the media features as well. I really like how it has built in Wifi and calender features along with the keyboard.

Basically Amazon charges $250 before just to port your number.

They mainly did New Activations. Seems like you don't have to sign on as a New Customer anymore.

That makes sense to me. They're not going to give you a new $500 phone for $50 if you haven't used their service enough to "pay off" the old phone. Think about it - someone could get a new $500 phone for $50 every month by just renewing their contract.
