I didn't know it was free for students. My wife still uses her .edu email, maybe she could sign up despite having graduated? If it works then why not?

Exactly. It just doesn't make any sense, especially at $79 per year. When you can normally get free shipping on most items. It'll be slow, yes, but it's actually free. I don't think I've ever bought something from Amazon that I absolutely had to get in two days.
Amazon's Super Saver shipping is terribly slow, though. The shipping itself isn't that bad, but Amazon takes their sweet time to process the order if you choose this shipping method.

To be honest, I didn't use to think Prime was worth it, because I didn't really shop at Amazon a lot. But I also got the one year trial from Amazon Student like others on here, and now I find myself buying from Amazon quite a bit more because of Prime. So I think I could justify the $79/year now.

And as others have mentioned, it can also be shared. So get a membership and share it with three other coworkers or whatever, then it's only $20/year per person.

I really can't stress enough how much I love Prime. I shop almost exclusively from Amazon, and buy everything from monitors to books to random toiletries. Amazon is without a doubt my favorite company - no bullshit. Awesome customer service, price, selection, can't complain about anything.

This.

Amazon is to everything else what newegg is to computer equipment .

Things I bought with prime that saved me a trip to the store and couldn't wait 10 days for super saver.

1) various bike accessories for my new bike, helmet, shorts, gloves, bottle holders, computer
2) blackberry battery and back cover
3) wire stripper
4) ipod car charger(probably could have waited)
5) halo reach
6) subwoofer
7) electric toothbrush
8) wireless router
9) video card

Now thats about $9.00 per order and I've only had it for 3 months. I would be down around 3 or bucks ore less by the end of 12 months. very well worth it for me when you factor in time to travel to and from store + gas + the discounted prices to start......I come out way way ahead.
