Amazon Prime-where are the free videos?

Spurred on by the rumors of a price increase for Amazon Prime to $99 I just signed up for it. My main reason was to use it like a Netflix service for the Roku I recently got.

Well I just spent a half hour browsing their offerings and almost everything I looked at had an additional charge-usually the same or more than I would pay elsewhere. And I'm not just talking about the latest releases-I also looked at ten year old and older movies.

Is there a way of filtering the searches to just show the "free" stuff?

Frankly from what I've seen right now I doubt Prime will last past the 30 day trial for me. Ordinarily I get 2-3 shipping for free from Amazon with a $35+ order, and I doubt I would borrow more than the occasional Kindle book.

I have an older roku... for me it is listed under prime instant video. There are prices on all the selections, but there is also a free (0.00) option as well. The library is not huge.

I mainly do prime for the free shipping. Have only watched 3-4 movies on there. My kids have watched a lot more.

There should be a link that takes take to just the free prime offerings.
It's on the Amazon instant video home page in the upper left side. I think you have to be logged in to your Amazon account to access it though.

Amazon instant is like netflix in a way. I can't count the number of times I said to my self "I think I'd like to see [insert title] movie" only to find that it isn't available. I'm usually not searching for new movies either. It'll be some old classic that I remember seeing in my youth that really should be included in their selection. Somehow netflix has added thousands of movies to their library from the same era, but consistently omitted the ones that I want.

Amazon is a bit more nefarious with their approach though. 9 times out of 10 you'll find that the movie is available for streaming, but you have to pay for it. They've gotten my money a couple of times that way. Sometimes having both netflix and prime pays off though. Near Christmas I got the idea that I wanted to watch Scrooged as my obligatory holiday movie of the year. Wasn't on netflix, but I found it for free on Amazon. It's the first time I remember that happening though. Normally whenever a movie pops into my head like that, I end up disappointed.

You pretty much need need Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu Plus to see half the shows you want to watch at any given time.

I have Prime, and Blockbuster through Dish. Blockbuster is way better at getting new releases faster than AP I think.
