Amazon Prime ... now with more Canuck

So Amazon finally got around to offering their Prime service in Canada, and I signed up for my one month free trial today and it has already cost me $116 in purchases.

It is so easy to succumb to the one click purchase with free two day delivery that I can see this quickly becoming a problem.

Damn you Amazon!!

Damn my lack of self control!!

I don't give a crap about two day delivery since Amazon is usually pretty quick anyway. When are we ever going to get video on demand and Amazon MP3? Would be nice to have more media options than iTunes and a lackluster version of Netflix.

I agree with this whole-heartedly. It's nice to see they are making a start to offering more media here by now having kindle books in the Amazon.ca store. Maybe music and video will follow.

I'd love to see Netflix getting more content as well! It's decent, but after seeing the US version, it pales. Amazon Prime won't get me ... too damn many kiddos eating up the disposable income budget 🙂

Welcome to the Borg. You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile.

I love Amazon Prime.
I sell FBA on Amazon, and Prime subscribers love anything fulfilled by Amazon.
Cha-ching!

The roadblock is the ridiculous licensing requirements and broadcast rights for airing US content. I think a lot of big providers just can't be bothered given the relatively small pool of subscribers here. Probably just more trouble than it's worth. I remember the hard time Apple had getting the iTunes Video Store out here.

I pay for a DNS service get the US version. It's miles better to the point where I couldn't go back. The downside is it doubles the cost of the subscription but I think it's worth doing.

i signed up for prime last month and this morning i was actually browsing amazon to find something to buy just because i felt like buying something. i couldn't really find anything to make me jump on the purchase 🙁

I'm glad it's finally here, but I use the free shipping and stuff usually arrives in two days anyway, so not sure it's worth it for me.

Charging tax in Amazon hasn't affected me too much - but I find the whole obsession with Prime to be overblown. I can EASILY make the $25 for free shipping on 99% of my Amazon purchases, and I don't give a shit about waiting an extra day to receive it.

You guys REALLY think that is worth paying over $100?

actually i did find something, just got dumb and dumber unrated on bluray for $4.99 will have it to watch on friday! not sure if i've ever actually seen the unrated version.

well i paid $80 for mine the 3rd week of december, and had all of my xmas shopping finished 10 minutes later, with the gifts at my house the following day or the one after. totally worth not having to go out in the crowds and look for gifts. probably got better prices too.

and the other day i needed another hdmi cable, so i just ordered one on amazon and had it 2 days later. was like $13. then i realized i needed a serial cable and found one the length i needed for $9. had it 2 days later.

so yea, definitely worth it and now using it for items i probably would have looked at other sites for, and getting them faster.

I suppose that depends on how long the Super Saver shipping takes to get to you. For me its 5-7 days after shipping (so maybe 7-8 days counting processing). I'm so spoiled by 2 day shipping that I'm annoyed when other companies ship standard ground at it takes 5 days, same with Amazon Subscription shipments not being 2-day as well.

Plus, the Amazon Video streaming makes it 1000000% worth it. Last week I picked up a Roku HD on CL for $15 and watched all the episodes of Sarah Conner Chronicles in a week in HD quality (HD enough for me anyway)

So 2-day shipping AND streaming for $6.58/month? Sign me up!

Two day shipping is for chumps.

When I had Prime it was free 1-day shipping. That included Saturday deliveries.

That was glorious. I wouldn't even buy socks or anything at stores but would just get it shipped to home/work/Amazon locker.

I don't order enough online these days to make it worthwhile, but I did have it at one point because it was free for the duration of your schooling if you had a .edu email. It was nice as a college kid because I'd usually wait until the last second to decide that I needed/wanted something, so the free two-day shipping was pretty fantastic. These days I'm a little wiser and I order far enough in advance that I just take the free shipping, so no, I personally don't think it's worth it. I think the way to do it would be to go half on one with a friend since members get to "share" it with one other person.

Is there a way to search for Amazon Prime eligible items only?
Search for the kind of thing you want.
Click on the "Prime Eligible" button along the left column. 😛

You should also get the same results without signing in if you click the "Free Super Saver Shipping" Shipping Option on the left.

I got tired of the waiting on the Super Saver shipping. Sometimes it's here in a day. Sometimes it gets close to 2 weeks. I figured that those Super Saver items got bumped way to the bottom of the priority list for getting packed and shipped.

There's an Amazon fulfilment center in Mississauga, ON so free shipping takes 2 days-ish regardless. I even got my ladder in 2 or 3 days.

Since Alberta and Vanouver are pretty major population centers, there's probably a fulfulment center near in/near Vancouver, so you should be set if you live there.

I've been buying a lot of shit on Amazon lately... Haven't had a single order come in below $25. The .ca selection is finally big enough that you can find something else you need.
