Amazon Prime Day - Is this a Big Deal or just marketing garbage?

I'm a Prime member as are many of you. So I go to Amazon today to purchase a reasonably expensive item ($350) and I see the Prime Day banners and whatnot. I decide to wait for 15 July and see what the fuss is all about.

Amazon's Prime Day page says nothing but "OMG! Super Awesome Dealios! Come and get it!" Which to me, reeks of marketing BS and disappointing results. But still, I removed the item from my cart.

Anyone have any additional info on Prime Day? Will they be offering "X-percent off all electronics" or something like that? Or will it just be "deals" like "10% off all gardening implements less than $10" which no one will give a crap about.

There's already an active thread about this here.

Well it specifically compares the sale to Black Friday, which is usually pretty decent ion Amazon IIRC. I dunno. I'm already a prime member anyway, so I'll certainly check in from time to time to see if anything I want is going cheap. If the deals are good, they'll get some of my money. If they aren't good, they won't get any of my money.

Doesn't matter much to me either way really.

Someone here linked to the thread on Reddit where they were talking about it at first. From what some of the supposed employees were saying, I get the impression it will be along the lines of their regular Lightning Deals, but mega-uber-bonkers amplified.

And probably smaller quantities, and shorter time limits on the items. I would guess during the peak times of the day, things will be disappearing in 5-10 minutes.

Also, huh. Didn't realize you were still on here.

If it's anything like Black Friday on Amazon then nothing cutting edge will be on sale it'll be mostly 2nd tier items, last year's models, and inventory that they have to move. Honestly Newegg has better Black Friday specials than Amazon.

I doubt techies will find anything impressive on sale. I'll see what the commotion is about but highly unlikely I'll buy anything. I haven't bought anything from Amazon on Black Friday for several years now as mid/high end electronics all had better prices elsewhere.

Thanks for the replies. So, it sounds like it's a "Woot" type deal where they announce some insane deal on an item for the next 42 seconds and they have ONE to sell at that price. Exactly like B&M stores on Black Friday.

I don't need the item I was looking to purchase right away. I can wait until the 15th. What I wanted isn't something that would normally be put on sale anyway. I'll just wait and see if they offer a blanket discount percentage on electronics or however they run the sale.

And yes; I'm still here, which amazes a lot of people, including me. :sneaky: I just don't post very often any more.
