If I have an older unregistered version 4.0 of PS, will I be able to use this upgrade version? How does it know, or what does it look for?

Yes, although I am a registered user, it will look for a previous version. You can direct it to search for older files off the CD and satisfy the upgrade conditions. It will still require your reg key. I haven't done this upgrade thing for three or more years.

This new version is a worthwhile thing to do and is a great price.

hehehehe.....people actually PAY for Photoshop? :)

I say that because it's always one of the top three pirated pieces of software every year. You'd figure they'd lock it down better.

Makes you wonder if the upgrade will be able to identify the SN's of the ones floating around on the web and will disallow them from upgrade qualification. I think we've all seen many other companies do that. I personally think it would be funny. But really I don't think they would do that because it would actually backfire and would encourage the pirates to keep pirating rather than going legit.

Based on past experience, I doubt it will work with ANY "LE" version.

This is a great deal if you don't have the book. The book is excellent.

That's not good... at least for me. Oh well. Guess I'll have to stick with 5.0 LE

I think the total cost is closer to $100.

$150 for Photoshop upgrade - $50 rebate
$40 for Intro to Web Design e-Services Starer kit - $40 rebate
$35 for Photoshop Restoration and Retouching bok - $35 rebate

Total: $100

There is a $10 off $75 Amazon code floating around, which you could probably find if you knew any hot deals clubs.

That is not the shipped price, that is the after rebate (AR) price.

I think you need PS 4.0 or higher to upgrade, and don't forget, your college bookstore has great deals for students for PS.
