Amazon orders backed up?

On April 7th I ordered two in-stock books (pretty heavy sellers, available within 24 hours). THey didn't ship until the 15th, and I didn't get them until today.
I just ordered some more things on today, the 27th, (again, 24-hour accessible stuff) and it tells me that the earliest it will ship is some stuff on May 3rd and some on the 4th.

What's up with this? Usually if you didn't get it within 7 days, even with saver shipping, it was a rarity. Now they're waiting 8 days just to send it out? Odd...

I said that. I'm not complaining.

It's just holding it in the warehouse for 8 days seems unnecessary unless (a) they're backed up or (b) they're just trying to piss me off.
Plus, how many people DON'T use saver shipping? It's not like 98% of people are ahead of me because they all voluntarily pay for shipping.

Use some common sense...if someone is going to pay for shipping they have a higher priority.

Can't you read? My point is that there can't be that many people ahead of me that I'm being pushed back 8 days solely so that people who voluntarily pay for shipping go out first. So many people get free shipping that it's not like I'm bottom of the barrel. I've always gotten better service in the past. I'm just saying this delay is not usual.

Don't patronize me.

I had an order of three books (not popular books) with free shipping, and they shipped it out within 3 days of me ordering it online. And this was a week ago.

Yeah, Amazon does that on occasion. Perhaps items are in stock, but are located in different warehouses, so they delay a bit to have them all available in 1 warehouse to only send one shipment.

When you choose free s/h, do you really care when the order will get delivered? If you do, pick over night next time.

I stopped shopping at Amazon for this reason. I know it's free shipping but it's rediculous how slow they ship when you choose free shipping. It usually take 2-3 weeks for me to receive in-stock item. Newegg, ZZF, and others give you the same service if you buy free shipping item or not.

Hmm, guess this is a relatively new (but consistent) development. Thanks to all the people who shared their experiences.

Special thanks to all the other posters who ignored my question and chose to belittle me instead by assuming that I was complaining about slow shipping and expected fast shipping at no cost.

I've never had any delays with free shipping until my most recent order. I placed it almost a month ago. Today I received an email saying it's been delayed another five weeks from today, so it will be June before it ships.

Not a big deal since I have a stack of books to read ahead of time and it's nothing I need right now, but it's annoying to order something around April 2nd and not get it until middle June.

At the least I would want to KNOW it will likely be delayed a few weeks, because then I would not order it from them.
