Yeah...no. I don't think I want to order some pre-fab "house" built in China.

Those are actually not too terrible of a deal. I'm sure it's super low quality and probably not well sealed/insulated, but it would be a good way to quickly get a basic house up while you build a proper one, then you can use it as a shed after once the main house is built. Although I wonder how much work needs to be done to get things to work like toilet etc.

10k for that. To put it into perspective a typical 40 foot container is about 7k, for just the container.

I actually went through on the ordering process expecting it to be a little more involved but it's literally like any other order, and shipping is only $5.54. How does Amazon even do this?!

I promptly removed that from my cart so I don't accidentally order it for real... lol.

I went to the link and the searched "house.." There's quite a variety. Not a huge selecton but they go from 10k to almost 100k

If you have the land and utility connections, it could be a good deal. Rent it out on one of the online booking sites. It could generate some decent cash income.

Of course assembling it properly will probably be a few days work and at least a few grand, but for an income property, you can write that off.

My back yard is wooded and on an abandoned road that had been partially rebuilt this century. My problem is zoning. Suburban NJ is nothing if not persnickety about zoning.

Amazon is only acting as the order taker.

Prefabricated housing could be a good thing for home building: common designs, centralized building with dedicated labor, potential to have more consistent build quality...

Too many local regulatory barriers and entrenched builder interests standing in the way. But people keep trying to spin up companies to do it.
