Interesting. I'll do some more reading on it later. I'm not seeing the anonymous part though. It looks like the money gets tracked from Google account to Google account. Another downside is USA only. That's where most of my purchases come from, but a non-trivial amount is outside the USA.

I've done it infrequently. From memory, Vanilla Visa required nothing from me. As long as I was under the dollar limit, nothing else was required. The Walmart Visa I foolishly got required my life story, as well as an iris scan, and a stool sample. I should have known better than to deal with Walmart in the first place.

I've never had to show ID to buy a gift card at Walgreens or Safeway. Ever.

I don't waste my time on the re-loadable ones.
My older brother gave me one of those $25-50 Visa Greendot re-loadable card to me as a gift for Christmas and upon seeing that it required my social to activate and use it, I passed that same card off to someone else as a gift a few days later.

This thread just proves why Amazon is so much better then paypal. I never really seen any posts started about Amazon but oh hell ya paypal posts are plenty to be found. I'll add to the hate for paypal. The first time I tried to sign up for paypal I could not get my card to register for paypal. My Visa debt card was was from a well known bank at the time and nothing I tried could make it to work. This was around 2003. About the same time I made my first purchase on Amazon and guess what the same debt card just worked. I never tried again to get paypal. If some website only takes paypal they won't get my business

My goal was to give lil rudeguy his allowance on a prepaid card so he could buy stuff on Steam. I refused to give my social for a prepaid card, so he used it once and pitched it.

Now he has a Chase Liquid card. That way I can transfer money instantly from my checking to his card. If he didn't piss me off, I'd set it up for auto transfer. Right now I wait for him to get his work done, then he gets his allowance (which he spends in 5 minutes flat).

For the exact reason SELLERS prefer Amazon Payments over Paypal. They're sick of getting dicked over by douchebag buyers who abuse the lopsided anti-seller policies that Paypal have. Paypal and eBay offer the seller nearly zero protections against unscrupulous buyers. Amazon Payments provides buyers with exactly the amount of protection they should need: Their credit card.

Sellers can "prefer" whatever they want. You have absolutely no recourse if you purchase something from a forum and pay via Amazon payment. It is considered a gift.

I've never had a problem selling on eBay or through PayPal. I've had people try and scam me numerous times. Every time they've opened a claim against me, I've won. I am also diligent enough to make sure I have everything in order to not get scammed.


And, I'd gladly use Amazon Payments, IF they covered things like purchases from person to person.

While I do know people who dislike Pay Pal, I don't know a single person who uses Amazon Payment. If this Amazon thing had as many people using it as often as Pay Pal how do you think it would be talked about?

I've done my fair share of internet business/sales. Paypal is like 95+%, regardless of country. The thing is that Paypal has the experience and the clout. It's the go-to. It's monopolistically socially acceptable on a global scale and it's effective. I've used everything else including the obvious plus BTC, LTC, google payments, etc.

It's saved me a few times and screwed me maybe once over the past 10+ years. This is including Ebay. I'm glad to pay Ebay fees as I account for them before I sell on Ebay, even though I have burned a few times.

Any pre-paid visa/mc will require ID or social or both soon. Most already do, it sucks it's required but you have nobody to blame but idiots. A guy came in my work and happily told me how his brother would get the Walmart reloadable visa and use it to rent games & movies from Redbox which he'd never return. I thought "what a fuck" but figured it was a semi isolated innoident. I was wrong, I talked to one guy who told me he had gotten like 500 movies and games from doing this.

There's too much liabilities plus too many dishonest asshats, it's a shame but companies are going to have start requiring dna samples for simple shit thanks to these fools.

There aren't nearly as many using Amazon payments, but there also haven't been many sites that offer it. You can't say there isn't enough to form an opinion... this thread has a number of people who like it. It's enough to say that so far there hasn't been many problems with it. Who knows what will happen if it gets bigger though.

The last forum sale I made (this past week) was done via Amazon Payments. In fact, the buyer PREFERRED to use AP over paypal.
