I just ordered a bunch of stuff off amazon and selected free shipping and in spite of all items being "in 24 hours" (in stock) their shipping time estimator threatens that they won't be shipped for 10 days, at least. Are they bluffing? Anyone have any experience with it?

It will most likely ship within 48 hours, but a few times I've had to wait 3-5 days before it shipped even though it said "24 hours."

The "shipping date" you see on that page is a misnomer. They really mean arrival date, not when the item ships from their warehouse. I've purchased items which the website indicated would ship within 24 hours, and I got a confirmation email indicating that they'd shipped the following day.

The items actually took a little under a week to arrive.

Cool. Seems to me they're trying to cash in on the worst case scenario and try to make an extra $8, while being careful not to deliver unacceptably late and losing business.

I once ordered a cookware set from Amazon that said "usually ships in 24 hours". It was about a month before Christmas.

Ended up they were actually OOS. I kept getting revised shipping estimates. I complained after the third delay, they gave me a $5 g.c.

After it got delayed four or five times, I would have cancelled but I had gotten a good deal and I still had my old cookware. Plus, they had immediately shipped a "free gift" frying pan that came with the order - I had already started using it and I did not want the hassle of returning it.

After another month, I complained again. They upgraded my shipping to 2-day (yay?).
Finally, I received the item in February, over two months after I ordered it and it was "in stock".

That was possibly the worst online ordering experience I've ever had.
