I just got a 2nd hand RCA LED52B45RQ 52" HDTV for free. This TV is from 2012 and is in great condition. I'm trying to get an Amazon Fire TV working on it, but so far am having no luck. (Actually, I've tried 2 Fire TV's, one 1st gen and one 2nd gen -- both behave exactly the same.)

Here's what happens:
  1. Connected to HDMI port (tried both).
  2. Power on Fire TV.
  3. White Amazon logo displays.
  4. Screen then goes black.
  5. No sound or video is displayed (the first time I did this I could actually hear sounds still, but never again after the first time).

I have tried holding up + rewind to make it cycle through all available screen resolutions. None of them display anything.

If I use an external converter box to convert the HDMI output to component video, it works, but it's not sharp and the Amazon Prime app cannot play sound in many videos for some reason (guessing some kind of copy protection issue.)

Other info:
  • Apple TV 2nd gen via HDMI works.
  • Laptop via HDMI works.
  • Both Fire TV's are updated to the latest OS version.
  • Tried 2 different HDMI cables. One says "High Speed" with Ethernet channel so I'm assuming it's 1.3/1.4 compatible like Amazon says to use.
  • I can't find any settings in the TV's OSD which make any difference.
  • When booting through component video, I see a colorful Amazon Fire TV logo which is not displayed over HDMI. All I see there is a white Amazon logo, then when that disappears, it goes black.
Does anyone have any clue what might be going on?
