It's been hard but I quit prime a few weeks ago and only bought two things on Amazon for my XMas shopping. The rest from places like Etsy or direct from the companies themselves like Smartwool and a hot sauce company. I have ordered a few things off of Amazon but just use the regular free shipping. When I needed to try new headphones for my Series X, I did Best Buy. When I had to get a couple pieces of equipment to test food out for this client, I went to Bed, Bath & Beyond.

I'll have to get Prime again when all of Expanse season 6 is out just to binge that, then quit again.

It's not easy to quit Prime and I just think it's interesting to try to spread the wealth around.

Packaging from Amazon has been way more hit or miss in the last couple months than before. You always had misses before but now it's just more common. Luckily nothing I've ordered that was packaged poorly was particularly delicate.

Try selecting "it's a gift" they tend to be packed better.

My stuff mostly arrive well packaged and intact. You can try the gift thing if your stuff regularly arrive damaged.

I still have an EBT/food stamps card from getting furloughed last year and registering it with Amazon is the only requirement to get Prime for $5.99 a month! (which makes quitting even harder!)

Amazon shipped this eVGA Z15 to me without a box. 🙁
I've gotten several computer and networking items like that- just slapped the shipping label on the retail box and sent it off. A router and a NAS unit both got returned after arriving like that (they both had issues during setup and testing).
In other news, I've gotten paperbacks from them wrapped in bubble wrap and stuffed in boxes.
Figures, lol. That's the thing...they'll ship a $500 computer part in a plastic bag with no padding, and then ship a $5 item in a box with air pockets. There's just no rhyme or reason, but it seems to have gotten worse in the past year or two.

This makes me glad we have a Microcenter in MI. Sure I could have saved a few bucks on the ram or cooler but, in addition to supporting not-Amazon, I didn't have to worry about this kind of thing
