Most of the $1000+ bids for a system alone are probably jokes. I don't think anyone in their right mind would pay more than double retail price!

I seem to remember the days when crazy moms where running around buy $300 to $400 Cabbage Patch kids, what about tickle me elmo and furby's? Special edition barbies come to mind too, as do all the special edition star wars figures. If the supply is low enough and the demand is high enough parents will pay just about anything so that their kids can have a PSX2 under the christmas tree, even if that means $600 or more.

perhaps because last night when the buy.com deal was going on the anandtech forums had problems because of so many people using them at one time.
