Amazon.Com - More Suck For Your Buck

I used to love Amazon.Com, back when they just sold media of various types. Back before they decided to become the Wal-Mart of the internet. Yes, I realize Wal-Mart has a site as well, but they don't suck as much as Amazon.Com, which is something I never thought I would find myself writing.

I used to have to limit my purchases to Amazon.Com only, as most of the secondary sellers would not ship to P.O. boxes, and I do not have a street mailbox where I live since the snowplows always knock them down. There are many roads and streets where I live where you will not see a single street mailbox. This was never a problem in the past though, as Amazon always had everything I wanted to order.

Sometime between my last purchase and tonight they seem to have implemented some new policy. I can still buy books through Amazon and have them shipped to my P.O. box, but they will no longer ship video games to me. I double and triple checked to make sure they weren't coming from Target or another of their secondary sellers, but no, they were all from Amazon. My $250.00+ purchase wound up having to be trimmed back to $40.00, and I would have taken the entire order elsewhere except they had one book I was ordering as a gift that B&N doesn't have.

Cliffs: Amazon.Com sucks.

Well I've had free 2 day shipping for 2 years now and got $200 worth of netgear stuff for free through a price error so I'm pretty happy with them =)

So you're saying they only perform well by accident?

Tough to imagine they'd want to throw away business like that. They are probably losing too much money to credit card fraudsters who try to conceal their identity using PO Boxes or something like that.

Lame. I bought the [Half-Life] Orange Box with them (or tried to anyway). I live in a dorm, where I can give my dorm address for UPS/ FedEx, or a PO Box for USPS.

I never got my Orange Box. It was sent to my dorm address, but with USPS, so it was returned as undeliverable. I couldn't remember why I would have given my dorm address until this thread, it was because they wouldn't take the PO Box anymore for the game.

(I did get a refund, but the price had gone up at that point, so I just ended up getting it off eBay).

Its not technically free if you have to pay $80 a year for the privilege.

I've never paid for Prime either.

That seems odd? Which video games were you trying to buy? All amazon FCs can ship via USPS (which is the only carrier that delivers to P.O. Box).

Your original post doesn't give enough information on what your problem is.

I've dropped like 4g's on Amazon in the past month. No tax + free ship + free month trial to prime = awesome and a half

PSP and DS Lite games. These were items carried by Amazon itself.

The problem is they will ship the books to my P.O. box, but will not ship any games there.

I'd love to know the secret to this as well.

As for the PO Box issue - I live in a dorm as well, but I have to use the street address for everything - so whether I use UPS/FedEx or USPS, the address I enter looks like this:

My Name
Street Address + Room Number
Building Name (sometimes, and if included, room number goes on this line)
City, State, ZIP

But every PO Box/dorm is different.

I feel your pain. I'm in Alaska and we don't have mail delivery to residences. Everyone in town gets their mail from private couriers (UPS, FedEx, DHL) or we have to go to the post office where everyone has a PO Box.

I was just able to pick Grand Theft Auto for PSP and ship it to the P.O.Box. Is there a specific error you're getting? It's possible that certain games are only available at certain FCs that do not support USPS, although I find that highly unlikely.

You can always call customer support as well.

When I lived in the dorms, I was able to get stuff from amazon.

My address was something like this:

Name
40XX Mesa Road, 102C
Irvine, CA, 92612

But we did have a mail room where we had to pick up our packages from.

We have a mailroom too; I think I was just unclear in my post - I don't actually have problems receiving packages from any company. If anything, I think sometimes I could be denied shipping for using a credit card where the billing address is ~800 miles away (school in Chicago, home in NY) and no authorized shipping address added onto my CC accounts, but that's never been an issue either.

I have a PMB at my local UPS store yet UPS sometimes glitches and refuses to deliver there.
Fedex and USPS always have it spot on, no issues.
