Amazon.com is screwing me out of $100 rebate!!!

I purchased a VLZ3U sharp camcorder and now Amazon is refusing to send the $100 rebate because they changed the terms of the rebate!!!

I called them and they told me exactly what I should send in for the rebate and that it would be accepted.. and now they are screwing me.

I am taking them to small claims court.. does anybody want to join me?!?!?

You followed the directions of someone on the phone and not the printed rebate?

I wouldn't've done that.

What proof do you have of what the person stated?

Record of the conversation & persons name?

A copy of a printed rebate form gives you better leverage that stating that you were told something.

I have no idea if this is valid, but if you show them a copy of the rebate form or show them proof that you're experienced with rebates, wouldn't it bring up the question as to why on earth you would do something different other then follow the directions unless someone had told you different? Your actions may speak louder then your words.

okay.. let me explain...

There were 2 rebates, a $50 rebate from Sharp, the manufacturer..
and another from Amazon for $100.

Both rebates wanted the original UPC, so that is when I called Amazon and they said that Sharp needed the UPC so to send a copy of the rebate to Amazon.

I also have an email saying the exact same thing from amazon... send them the copy of the UPC and it will be accepted.

I have all of the dates and times of when I called.. I met all other requirements on the rebate...

The sent me a message saying that since they have the following statement on their rebate they will not pay me : " Amazon.com reserves the right to cancel this rebate at any time."

BS!!!

That would be like me opening a new store and offering rebates on everything just to bring customers in and then when they mailed in their rebates to me I say.. ooops sorry.. I cancelled those rebates!

make sense now?

Was this rebate actually showing on the product page, or did you find it through some direct link from Hot Deals or FatWallet?

That is, are you trying to claim a rebate that really was no longer available but was still buried somewhere on their website? If so, the person you talked with didn't lie to you, they just didn't realize you were trying to claim an expired rebate.

how did they not realize I what I was talking about? They had my order number and they knew exactly what item I was talking about.

I even printed the rebate form directly from their site.

Its not fair that they change the rules in midstream.. if they changed the rules, why didnt the people who sent me an email and who told me over the phone to do the exact same things?

Amazon is screwing me.. and I am not going to put up with it...

They tried to screw me on a rebate too. I got mad pissed and wrote a letter to their Senior Vice President (Customer Service), I got an email back from someone competent and they resolved the situation. You can try writing to:

Mr. Jeff Wilke
c/o Amazon.com
1200 12th Avenue South
Suite 1200
Seattle, WA 98144-2734

if you want this fixed, call customer service again and explain to them what happened, in my experience those guys bend over backwards to help customers out, more so then i think is reasonable.

Oh.. so call them again.. that should help?

I have called them 6 times about this, a manager wont talk to me or call me back. they just keep telling me that there is nothing that they can do.

I wish it was just that simple.

Mention that you are considering small claims court in the the letter.

And do register a complaint with the FTC. If they seee a pattern of this kind of stuff they may launch an investigation. Then you can get vengful satsifaction as you watch the corporate heads roll.

Good luck in small claims court if the rebate form required the original UPC and you sent a copy. The whole point of requiring the original UPC is to prevent you from doing multiple rebates.
