Amazon.com and warranty?

I was at Starpower the other day just browsing around and this salesman was trying to get me to buy an LG 50PC5D for $1999. As a matter of fact they were way over priced on just about everything, although they claimed to have "manufacturer" prices, though it may be true.

I had previously researched on Amazon.com and saw one for $1799, and actually they're a lot lower now. Anyhow, I asked the salesman why his price was so high and why Amazon offered it lower and with free shipping and handling plus no tax. He replied that Amazon.com is not an authorized dealer and that voids the warranty on the product.

I researched the fact in question, but couldn't find any definite answer, so I was wondering if anyone here has purchased from Amazon.com, as I'm sure there are, and if the warranty is still valid? I've seen it cheaper at lots of places but have become very aprehensive about buying from online sites due to warranty issues or even worse, being ripped off. I have no idea who the valid sellers are online.

Just one last thing. I actually went just down the street, not even 3 minutes away to Conns, and I saw the same TV for $1347. I just kind of giggled.

thanks for your input.

one thing you can do is check with the manufacturer. I'm sure results will vary but they tend to keep a list of their registered authorized resellers. I think when you're dealing with a high-end item it's worth having this support.
