Amazon cloud computing EC2

Hmm. It seems to be aimed at large enterprise customers with a need for many, many servers. Is this something Amazon built for themselves and then decided to sell?

That's kinda what I wondered. It looks like it's pretty scalable so you could use it whether your company is large or small and you just need some temporary crunching horsepower.

Wonder how expensive it would be to set up & maintain? To me this sounded almost like taking the F@H concept commercial (farm out the work load over lots of computers & charge for the results). Now, if Amazon was paying people to provide the computing horsepower instead of building the farm themselves...

I guess I should do a comparison between what I proposed charging to host some DC apps on a Q6600 farm, as compared to what that would cost on EC2.
