I make a good chunk of my advertising money on my blog from Amazon links ... anyone else get this from them?

Makes me sad, damn you MN :(.

We are writing from the Amazon Associates Program to notify you that your Associates account will be closed and your Amazon Services LLC Associates Program Operating Agreement will be terminated effective June 30, 2013. This is a direct result of the unconstitutional Minnesota state tax collection legislation passed by the state legislature and signed by Governor Dayton on May 23, 2013, with an effective date of July 1, 2013. As a result, we will no longer pay any advertising fees for customers referred to an Amazon Site after June 30 nor will we accept new applications for the Associates Program from Minnesota residents.

Please be assured that all qualifying advertising fees earned prior to July 1, 2013, will be processed and paid in full in accordance with your regular advertising fee schedule. Based on your account closure date of June 30, 2013, any final payments will be paid by August 30, 2013.

While we oppose this unconstitutional state legislation, we strongly support the federal Marketplace Fairness Act now pending before Congress. Congressional legislation is the only way to create a simplified, constitutional framework to resolve interstate sales tax issues and it would allow us to re-open our Associates program to Minnesota residents.

We thank you for being part of the Amazon Associates Program, and look forward to re-opening our program when Congress passes the Marketplace Fairness Act.

Sincerely,

The Amazon Associates Team

Pretty ballsy, dropping all minnesotans though .... and whose going to go through and delete the links? Amazon is going to reap some crazy benefits now they do not have to pay out for the referrals.

What are there, three of you up there that actually have internet access? ;)

They don't seem too concerned about losing you all, but it does sound like the MFA will be rendering all this moot anyways.

How much money we talking about?

Couple hundred a month ... enough for me to keep updating my site, haha. Only fractions of that from google.

That sounds like a lot of work creating an llc in another state, I might just keep going with google ads and suck it up.

that's happened to california, illinois, nc, some other states. you can create an llc in another state (such as nevada) and sign up through your new company.

Didn't know that!

I'm looking into signing onto Amazon Affiliates (.com) and have been searching about tax info for Canadians. My searches keep turning up results about entire states full of affiliates being dumped cause of sales tax or something.

And holy shit on the audacity of some people. I googled an item I was just about to buy from Amazon, a bunch of blogs popped up, and all the blogs did was copy and paste the descriptions with a link. One fuc*er even auto-redirected me straight to Amazon -- doesn't seem like much, but apparently, clicking an affiliate's link puts a 24 hour (?) cookie on your computer that gives the guy a commission if you buy anything.

The CA affiliate program got reinstated once Amazon worked out the tax deal with the state.
