I need a new trolling motor for the boat I just purchased (2000 Javelin 17' F&S w/115hp Johnson.)

Pretty much settled on a Minn Kota PowerDrive V2, 45# thrust. Bass Pro sells it for $485, not the cheapest but certainly not the most expensive place to buy....and Bass Pro is currently running the 6 Pay promotion (no interest purchase option which spreads the cost over 6 months.)

Decided to just check Amazon and lo and behold, they're selling the same motor for $420, $3.99 overnight shipping. Ended up saving almost $100 over anywhere else for the same exact item from anywhere else (includes sales tax.)

Damn Amazon, give me a reason NOT to buy from y'all! You just make it too hard to resist.

I have a feeling Amazon will continue to kill it, even after the sales tax crap is factored in.

I don't have "prime" and my Amazon shipments take FOREVER! But I don't buy from Amazon enough to merit buying prime. I'm mostly an Ebay user.

I've had Prime for a couple of years now... And I find myself ordering so much more from Amazon than I ever thought I would. Everything from specialty items I can't find locally, to every day stuff that is just more convenient to get from Amazon.

I love prime! Always comes in handy. Plus I get it for $39 since the wife still a "student".

Maybe it's just me but on some orders lately they have been using this "lasership" company instead of UPS and they SUCK. 2 day shipping turns into 3 and sometimes 4 or 5 days!! I've bitched to them about it lately and they have compensated me with another free month of prime or a $10 promo code. Still is annoying though.

Amazon prime is awesome. On large heavy items the one day shipping for 4$ saves so much money over retail and relieves the hassle of maneuvering the large and heavy item into the car. Just doesn't make sense to buy certain things retail.

This. I tried the free trial but cancelled near the end ... I just do not order enough to justify the $79 they want per year.

I love Amazon Prime. It's a shame that they started their new add-on only category of items, but I understand why they did it.

Whenever I needed something (even something as small as toothpaste), I'd jump on Amazon and order via free 2 day prime shipping. Now a lot of low-end items are add-on only which means you can only buy them if your order is $25 or more. It's reduced my usage of amazon by at least a factor 3, but I've only stopped buying small stuff (<$5) from them.

if you just plan ahead you can throw add on items in your cart and then whenever you order something a bit bigger you can just get them thrown in with it.

I had my first off-putting experience with Amazon last week. They sent me a used/open-box Tripp Lite Isobar when I paid new, full-price... The person who opened it didn't put back in the cardboard offsets, so it was bouncing around (all 2 lb of it with 2-3 inches of free space in the box to shift) from at least the warehouse to my door -- not to mention the caved in delivery box. Did it get returned back to the warehouse that way too? Or did it get sent out and returned meaning the trip to my house was voyage number 3?

Anyways, Amazon gave me a full refund. Customer service was great, as usual. But the experience reminded me not to buy certain, more fragile things without being able to touch it and inspect it first. Think that will include most electronics for me.

I just realized I have $140 worth of Discovery points that can be used on Amazon and have been going crazy buying little things with them. My theory is I better use the points up before they expire-of course, I've made no effort to learn when the points do expire.

Never bought Prime-I can usually get a $25 order together for free shipping.

I believe the Prime benefit is the 2-day shipping, not that people can't get free shipping -- you essentially pre-pay for shipping with the annual membership fee for Prime.

I live close to a distribution center, so I get 2-3 day free shipping usually anyways.

Same. Also use the Prime Instant Video a lot and Kindle book borrowing thing. It's a nice service, especially when you factor in the extras. Currently only paying $39/mo, though (got the free student membership for a year and then they let you renew for a couple more years at a reduced price). Will probably continue to renew even after it jumps up to $79, though.

You have to watch out on the prices, though. Sometimes Amazon is quite a bit more expensive than Walmart or other B&M stores.

I'm confused. You say you need to buy that motor. Most places are almost $500 for it, yet Amazon had it for $420. And you are saying Amazon suckered you in?

You'll also be happy to hear that they expanded their Prime Instant Video by signing with NBCUniversal.

He's probably trolling us.

LOL! Hadn't thought of that. Trolling the boards w/a motor---too easy.

Anyway, had the boat out for the first time today---bought it 4 days ago and nothing but rain since. The TM worked well, but mostly wanted to see what'd it do. Hit 53 mph---and a darned smooth ride to boot.

You would buy enough with Prime.

We averaged under half a dozen orders a year. With Prime that has gone 30-40-50-60 to 77 last year (and who knows how many shipments, many are multiple items). Plus something like 50 digital orders.

Ordered a window AC unit last month. Free 2 day shipping on ~40lb unit.:awe:
