And people wonder why I consistently order from Newegg rather than Amazon...

One person got a response from a CSR that the promo only applies if you purchase a Ryzen 7000 CPU. Literally a 7000.
Newegg has done some pretty shady stuff in the past, so it's not like it's "better" than Amazon. And if you order something that has a free add-on from Newegg, good luck with returns or exchanges: you might find yourself charged for that add-on.

That's a good thing to note here. I basically assume that most Newegg old-schoolers know this already, but if you purchase an item, an optional (checked by default) "Free Gift" may be added to your purchase items. If you go through with the purchase, and then later, choose to return the main item for a refund, Newegg will SUBTRACT THE VALUE OF THE FREE GIFT FROM YOUR REFUND.

Pro-tip: NEVER EVER (EVAR!!!1!) use "chat" for Amazon support. (unless wasting time is your idea of "fun")

ALWAYS request a phone-call and don't give up but stay polite/professional .... sooner or later the "squeaky-wheel" factor will kick in and they'll take care of you.

The most challenging part of the process is getting a hold of a person who actually cares AND has the "authority" to actually help! (this might happen on the 2ed call or the 10th... it's a bit of a crap-shoot)

Newegg is no longer a retailer I trust to buy any product made by a company without absolutely STELLAR warranty support/CS. If I have a serious customer-service issue I'd say the chances of Amazon actually caring and fixing it are 100x times higher. (also Amazon have never given me a problem over any return!)

Amazon might be huge and "ungainly" when it comes to getting help but at least it's possible to stumble into it! Not so many times for Newegg, the Chinese company who owns them is not to be trusted.

If you doubt this do a little reading up on the Gigabyte exploding PSU's those bastages KNOWINGLY stuck customers with or the physically damaged MB they stuck Steve from GN with and then tried to blame him.

This issue is definitely something that has crossed my mind in the last week. An RX 6600 I picked up just before BF, which had two games included per AMD promotion, needed to go in to MSI this week for an RMA (thanks to WHEA errors across 2 systems; and near immediate crashing in Furmark). I can only image the fun I would have had if I had to do a return or an exchange because of that game promotion.

Newegg in 2023 is a far cry from the company we used to know and love back in the day.

Being fair however I personally have never had a serious problem with them go unresolved. (although some required a LOT of "doing" to fix!)

i gave up on them after it got bought out by the chinese company and i started hearing all the problems people were having

most of my hardware comes from microcenter now, with an occasional purchase from amazon

I get most of my PC/electronic stuff from either Amazon or Best Buy "B&M" locations in recent years. (Nearest Micro Center is in Yonkers, a 2+ hour drive into NYC-metro traffic)

The last purchase I made from Newegg was a Samsung 2tb SATA SSD in early 2021. (Amazon was out of stock and they matched the price)

Most of my last PC was Micro Center parts, with maybe 1-2 items from Amazon/Newegg; MC had pretty competitive pricing. Another option is Best Buy: you can price match major retailers online, so it can be a good spot as well for select parts.

I used Amazon chat a few days ago. I ordered some RAM on the 13th and the price dropped $5 before it shipped out (16th), but they basically said my only choice is to return it and order it again.

Well, joke's on them. The original RAM I ordered never actually shipped (UPS just says the tracking label has been printed, and today was the "we're sorry it's late but it will definitely be here this day" day with nothing), so I ordered the RAM again at the $5 cheaper price and it will be here tomorrow. Gonna cancel the original order.

Sounds about par for the course.... with phone calls at least there's a (slim!) chance the person you're conversing with will care!

So frustrating that they just won't adjust the price. So many other companies accommodate such price changes when you're within the return period.

side note, i wonder why AMD would reuse the 7950 number from 10 years ago

i had one of those cards. it was a great deal near the end of its lifecycle.

Heh, I still have my 7950. TBF, it was an Nvidia card. Nvidia also made a 6800XT back in the day. Hmmm...I see a trend.

Puzzled by the text on that offer - it says "...until supplies last". What does that even mean? "...while supplies last" would make sense, but "...until supplies last" seems to mean that you'll only get it as long as they don't have any. As soon as they have some, they'll stop giving them out.

That's probably why you didn't get one - they got their while loops and until loops mixed up.

While I was looking for a new GPU and settled on the 6800 XT, I couldn't help but think back to my HD6950.

I also have an 8800 GT. That's like 2.16x a 4080...

I had an original EVGA 8800 GTX.

That died eventually and they sent me a GTX-550 ti to replace it. (small upgrade)

After a couple years in a backup PC that died too... they sent a GTX-960 4gb. :D
(another small upgrade)

After another year or so that card refused to "wake" properly... they sent an overclocked GTX-1650. (roughly = to a GTX-980 or 1060 6gb so substantial upgrade this time)

Fortunately the 1650 is totally stable to this day but "technically" I still have my original-owner "Lifetime" warranty if it craps the bed.

I wonder what happens then with EVGA out of the GPU business?
