Just curious, have any of you received a notice from your local post office that fund are due to receive an item you ordered on Amazon?

I have had this happen a few times, mostly it seems to have been 3rd party vendors on Amazon, but the latest was "fulfilled by Amazon". In short, they pay to ship an item with a weight of 9 ounces, but the receiving post office weighs the package and it reads 13 ounces. That difference is generally $2-$3, so the PO drops a notice in my box that in order to receive the package, I need to provide them with the difference to pickup the package at the PO.

Long story short, this just happened twice on an item (2nd item was to replace the first), and I'm done. My PO closes at 4:30, and I simply cannot get there after work without adjusting my schedule.

This happened to anyone else?

Post office is probably finally cracking down from doing very poorly. They used to let crap go all the time (from stories I've heard).

It's a standard technique when shipping parts for my old company. We had a house account with UPS/FedEx, and if the item was too much for our 20 lb scale, we were told to underestimate and UPS/FedEx would weight it at the shipping center and just charge the company the correct amount.

Sounds like you're getting hosed. A quick e-mail to Amazon should clear things up. I've found their customer service to be quite good. I've also never had anything shipped prime come via USPS.

Never happened to me. I have to believe that Amazon will fix this quickly if it turns out not to be an isolated issue though. I would e-mail Amazon and ask for a credit in the amount of the postage difference. That'll let them know there's a problem and you might at least get your money back.

weirder thing is that your prime packages are being delivered by usps...never seen that in 3+ years of being a prime member.
where do you live?

Yeah, they quickly issued a refund for the first one. I went in and paid that.

This one, I am simply irritated. One time is a mistake, the second time is something altogether different, IMO. For some reason, I didn't think it was prime when I ordered it, but it is now. At any rate, it takes me a day or two two try to coordinate time to get off work early enough to get to the PO to pick it up. If I wanted to go pick it up, I'd go to a local store.

UGH. I do live in a small town (8000 people) just outside of Omaha. However we get UPS and Fedex deliveries all the time, so not sure why they are using USPS for this one.

I've had this happen before on third party orders for phone accessories that were $5-6 coming from China or something, but when it comes Prime... I dunno, I just expect it to be right and at my door is 2-3 days. Not at the PO.

sounds like your local post office is holding packages hostage

Indeed. To be honest though, I can't blame them. They're basically getting cheated by people who are packaging the items themselves, and losing money in the process. Maybe not all POs are as picky about it, but my PO seems to find this a fair amount.

Honestly, their CS was definitely good the first time around, and I would guess they'd be fine this time around too. It's just irritating that I ordered it nearly two weeks ago, and the replacement was underpaid just like the first. (One was $0.20 more or so than the other, but they were both within the same ball park.)

Check your e-mailed invoice. I just ordered stuff and the e-mail says that shipping speed is Prime 2 day. It's possible it changed in the last 48 hours?

Something isn't right... why is an Amazon sent package not going through UPS?

Eh, I was just referring to the item on Amazon.com. I think it was fulfilled 3rd part at the time.

... Yep. Shipping speed listed as Standard. So not Prime when I ordered.

In any case, my problem is more with the item not getting to my door period. I have to go to the PO to pay for the item. I don't buy things online to deal with that hassle.
