This is because of the Cold War and the Korean War (well, the latter is an extension of the former). Anyway, the US pumped lots and lots of $$$ into that region to hold back the commies. Hence why Japan and Taiwan are more than just lumps in the ocean.

edit: oh right, Chinese > * asians. Korea wouldn't exist if China hadn't saved its ass repeatedly. Korea and Japan wouldn't have the culture AT seems to cherish so much if it weren't for China either.

While I think the claim that Korea (or any other nation) holds total superiority in Asia is a naive comment, seeing as how the histories of all neighboring countries are fairly intertwined, I think you certainly need to brush up on your history in order to understand that Korea's rise as a cultural and economic player in modern day was not because of 'outside' influences.

I would submit to you other asian countries that we've been involved with, such as Vietnam, or the Philippines, which are still struggling with mediocrity.
