what is the contraption mounted over the viewfinder on the camera in the third picture from the the bottom? can it transmit the view to a video screen so that pics can be taken remotely?

I believe that's a wireless trigger for flashes.

At any rate, its good to be Canon is right. Makes the new setup I just bought seem like a toy:(

info on the devices

The PocketWizard MultiMAX Transceiver is the WORLD'S most innovative and advanced Digital Radio Triggering system available in the photographic market. With such distinctive features such as integrated Trigger Time Control software, True Trigger Confirmation and Selective Quad Triggering only to mention a few, it's no wonder the MultiMAX goes far beyond the expectations of wireless triggering.

Wireless Transceiver Technology - eliminates the need for a separate transmitter and receiver setup.

True Trigger Confirmation feedback, up to 1600 feet away or more, without the need for signal repeaters or daisy-chained radios.

Flash Confirmation Cable(optional) - lets the photographer know that the flash actually fired

"Trigger Time Control" software, it's easy and very convenient to create rear curtain sync effects with any camera, add depth of field using multi-pop mode, record events as they unfold using the intervalometer mode and much more.

No, it's a lot less complicated than that -- it's a right-angle viewfinder adapter which allows you to use the viewfinder while looking down from the top.

And that's a hell of a lot of equipment, mostly the 1D and 1Ds. At ~5k for a body, there's some serious money in gear there.

[EDIT: Are you talking about the wireless release on the hotshoe, or the adapter over the viewfinder eyepiece?]

Oh, oops, you're right. I thought he was talking about the other unit on the flash shoe.

...the adapter over the viewfinder eyepiece...

that seems pretty useless, wouldnt it just be easier (and a lot more comfortable) to lay on the ground in the prone position?

also, someone should invent a remote eyepiece viewer that would snap in place on an slr. that would be cool.
