Amazing how some things in MMOs are very similar to things in real life

Remind you of some things that happen when a massive amount of foriegn immigrants migrate to your hometown?

NOTE: Bloodscalp was a small pop server, SH was a high pop, blizzard has transfers from SH to bloodscalp now. Bloodscalp's culture and economy was destroyed over night.

Um...it's spring now.

Mother nature just took a dump on Montana: 8+ inches of snow in the last day.

It is kind of interesting. I wonder how many sociological researchers, have teamed up with MMORPG developers, to use it as a "live model" for analysing population group, and social dynamics. I think that would be an interesting field to expand into, as a researcher.

But it just proves that Turbine's model (at least with Asheron's Call), with one single, unified world (using high-end load-balancing technology to make which server you were currently using, out of the cluster, totally transparent to the user), was a better one.

Yeah, no-one remembers Turbine or AC, it seems, but IMHO (and I *am* biased, I must disclose) two of the things that they got really right, was an extended beta-test period to work out the bugs, and the singular-whole-universe model for character interaction, instead of these weird per-server parallel-universe "shards" that seem to cause so many problems, both technically and also in terms of social interaction, as you so abruptly found out.

Jeez - I'm glad I rarely bother with the WoW Forums. What a bunch of retarded drama queens.
