When I went to the boundary waters two years ago, I saw some aurorae, but they were white, but sharp. A few months ago, I saw better norther lights right from my own house; you could see colors in them, and they were directly overhead. You don't see them very often in the suburbs at 45°N.

I used to have an awesome shot of the aurora borealis from space, where it shoots up like a fountain off the atmosphere. I just did a google search and couldn't find it, though I found one that wasn't nearly as good. Awesome natural event though. And nice pic.

I once saw a NASA presentation and in it, they had a picture of the northern lights from space, taken from the shuttle. It was beautiful. If you ever find such a pic, let me know.
