Yeah, I repurposed my i7 920 for my HTPC in 2015 when I went with the 4790K. I probably would have upgraded by now, but I had been working on my upgraded home server in 2017 when life changed for me.
My HTPC is actually on a 939 Opteron which is due to be retired.

My previous desktop also has a P6T Deluxe v2 + i7 970 which I thought about using to upgrade the HTPC. But now that I think about it I believe I still have my old i7 920 D0 and another x58 board in the closet. So still on the fence if I will use them to upgrade that machine or go with something that will use less power.

Pick up a X5660 on ebay for $20 or so. 95 watts vs 130. It will drop right in to that board and run great. Had one in that same motherboard.

The other board I had in the back was this one with the 920 D0 in it so I may swap that out for an X5660 that is not a bad idea. Just need ram and a cpu cooler for this one.

Case is a Silverstone LC20M Black.

The P6T Deluxe v2 + i7 970 is still in the previous tower will probably leave that as is.

Its hard finding low profile coolers in stock that are compatible with 1366 socket.

I did however find this BeQuiet Shadow Rock LP this should do. Also difficult to find tripple channel memory, so will probably just start with 8GB (2x4) sticks for now.

My current system vs. the 980X system I had in 2011. 3DMark11 Extreme.

Thats nice jump in about 10 years, the old rig was using tripple SLI which gives it quite a boost compared to the average single gpu setup in those years.

I was able to score a X5650 for $20 local so no ebay, guy is gonna ship it to me on friday as he is just outside my city.
