Most of my gaming time is being eaten by tribes ascend, but as a former wow player and big fan of that particular loot driven style of RPG which of the 3 games in the title would fill the void left by wow. or are there other games that would be more appropriate than these, I prefer a single player game as my multiplayer needs are more than met by tribes.

diablo is for all intents and purposes a mmorpg because you need to stay online to play. Skyrim and amalur are both fun games and fairly similar in many ways, but are not heavily loot driven like in Diablo. Amalur's combat is more fun than Skyrim's, but skyrim's environment is lush and feels more explorable.

Diablo is a grind for loot once you hit 60 and clear hell (not necessarily in that order).

Diablo is the game of loot. I haven't played Diablo, but I'm willing to assume that overall, Skyrim is easily the best of the bunch. Far more immersive experience.

Amalur is fun, but it gets really old, real quick. I did put a ton of hours into it, but just got bogged down by the repetitive questing. Skyrim can be like this, too, and it could be that I got bored with Amalur simply because I had just come from Skyrim.

Anyhoo--if loot is all you crave, though--then Diablo. Loot is terrible in Skyrim--in fact, it is generally quite worthless compared to anything you can craft, so need to bother.

Amalur or Skyrim. Wait for a few months or weeks on Diablo 3, until at least they patch in pvp, and stabilize the game play some more. No point in spending 60 dollars to what at this point amounts to a being beta tester.

I say skyrim. Lots of awesome mods and it's pretty stable. Diablo is still having enough problems for me to not consider it worth playing.

If you want to recreate Wow(along with their faults) in SP, get Amalur.

If you want a decent rpg with NO real focus on loot rng, get Skyrim.

If you want a pure item grind and be required to be online to play SP, get Diablo.

Skyrim. Diablo is the flop of the decade.

Amalur was pretty good, but Skyrim is better.

Diablo 3 - loot grind to the max, server issues too - make sure you get a mobile authenticator if you go for it to improve your account security, rampart hacking is happening
Skyrim - great adventures in a beautiful world with so much to explore, DLC soon out
Kingdoms of Amalur (played the demo only) - single player WoW

No contest for me - Skyrim wins. Awesome game :)

Pre-order Tochlight 2 on steam for $20 and get Torchlight 1 free to play now.

Or get Borderlands and play "Diablo with guns," it's fun solo or (I'm led to believe) in co-op. Be sure to get the complete pack with all of the DLC.

This, except for the Borderlands part.

Of those three I would pick Skyrim but I think there are better options. For action rpg with lots of loot; I prefer titan quest (esp if single player is all you want). For a deeper rpg I thought DKS (dragon knight saga) was very good (enjoyed it more than skyrim). Skyrim is interesting; I liked the sneak mechanics and graphics were nice but it really wasn't story driven; nothing you did changed the world around you.

Borderlands was fun and is cheap.

Mind you I don't think titan quest was the best game the past 5 years; but you seem to want a well done simple minded action rpg and titan quest certainly fits that description.

I had a lot of fun with Titan Quest + Immortal Throne. Apparently it was buggy at launch but the final version with Throne added in wasn't buggy at all.

I vote for Skyrim. There is going to be some tasty DLC coming out soon and the vanilla game is good for at least 60 hours.

I received skyrim as a gift, installed it and checked it out for a few minutes just havent had time to devote to it, I also have about 100 hours in borderlands to whomever suggested that one. Will probably play skyrim as quite a few of you have suggested it over the others. My first impressions of the game were meh, combat feels, i guess clunky is the word but I may as well give it a shot since I already have it. Not happy that loot is an after thought though I was hoping it was going to be a big part of the game. My son actually has titan quest on his steam account, that looked cool I may give that a go as well. Diablo is calling to me however but I think its just wow withdrawals and am not interested in having my account hacked so I will try to resist, my wow account was hacked on several occasions as well, whats up Blizz?? Have they hired the security staff from play station network?

Definitely Skyrim.

Diablo III is fun, but not mind-blowing fun. It's more about "what kind of loot can I find tonight?!?" I made it to Nightmare ("beat the game" once) and I'm already feeling a bit bored.

Skyrim, on the other hand, is very immersive. There's tons of content, lots of places to visit, and some pretty cool quests. Plus, lots of user-made content to try out as well.

Skyrim - Immersive living world. Great visuals. Great exploration. Tons of mods. Stable. Just a fun game. 9/10

Amalur - A dumbed down Skyrim. I got bored of it after about 5 hours. 5/10

Diablo 3 - Like hardcore DRM? Like technical problems? This is your game. Enjoyable gameplay ruined by Blizzard's heavy hand and Acme Servers. 6/10

+1 Titan Quest and Dragon Knight Saga are both excellent games.

Dragon Knight Saga is, indeed, quite awesome. I enjoyed SKyrim more, but DKS is a great blend of good action (better than Amalur) and great RPG elements (better than anything Bioware puts out, now).

Skyrim is too short, by the time you level your character to a point you actually enjoy finding new items the game is over. Every side quest feels exactly the same as well, where as with D3 different players bring different skill sets online which force you to play differently at times so there's way more replay value.

Leveling and loot is definitely D3, kick back and go through a single player console expeirence is sky rim.

i would say not skyrim. visually, it's gorgeous, but gameplay-wise, it's strongly inferior to Oblivion and not a really good game at all. (though others may dissent)

Skyrim has a vast, vibrant world to explore and is the most immersive.
Amalur has more of a wow-esque feel to it because you lock on to enemies, and it is more about character building than the others.
D3 is about the loot. Really, if all you want is brainless hack and slash, (which can be fun with buddies) D3 is your game.

Definitely not Amalur, it's fun but overall gets old quick, and the developers are pretty much gone now, don't expect support or future patches or content, the game is probably dead already because of that, and as others say (I agree) what's already "in" it gets repetitive quickly (but the combat system is great, credits where due).

If you want loot and not much else, go with Diablo III, that's a no brainer.

As for Skyrim, it's a great game, no doubt, but it's more about immersion and exploration than anything else. Again, if what you want is finding loot, I wouldn't go with Skyrim, then again it depends on your play style. If you role-play a lot, just walk around towns, talk to NPCs, try out modifications made by the community, just wander around doing random things for fun... you need Skyrim for that.

If you go with Diablo III you'll have a "necessary" go through the basic story and the four Acts of it, do that three times from Normal, to Nightmare then for Hell difficulties, then you get to Inferno difficulty which is the "extra" part of the game in which all you do is survive your way through any given mobs to find that "next best loot" that you'll be using yourself or be selling at the AH to buy something better for yourself.

Someone suggested Borderlands, not a bad idea actually, I also liked it, but Borderlands 2 isn't very far away, I think I would just wait for it instead rather than going with the original. I've also seen Titant Quest in the suggestions, it wasn't bad... a couple of years ago, you might as well just play Diablo 2 instead, but ultimately I wouldn't go with it (again, if you want loot and nothing else, go with Diablo III, no kidding).

Have you looked into The Witcher 2 at all?

I feel bad recommending it, considering I haven't played it lately (Diablo 3 yay :D), and really only got a few quests into the game, but what I have played of TW2 made me love it. The story and characters alone really suck me into the game.
It doesn't seem ridiculously loot-driven, and it's overall styling and stuff may not be at all what you are looking for.
