I know C2D will no doubt top it all. But price like this for dual core...too bad my wife talk to me the other night...about buying too many things.... Never mind, back to topic.

I read this already (retail box) sell around that US$80 oversea (Hong Kong) so this is heating up again.

(although you can buy a Q6600 $266 Q3... at least list price)

Perfect for that budget overclocker or office worker. Most people don't need a Intel Core 2 Duo just the people that post here.

Even if I am using C2D myself, I might consider this as C2D processing power is too much for me :) I am pretty sure if I get rid of my CPU and mobo (E6300/GA-965G-DS3) and go to this, I can keep over 100 bucks in my pocket :p Hmm.. To be, or not to be, that's the problem. lol

Even gamers will be happy with this chip as long as they overclock. Clocked @ 2.8-3.0GHz this processor will be more than fast enough even for an 8800GTX setup. For $85 you can't go wrong... it's hard to imagine we would have payed $300 for a similar X2 3800+ only around a year ago.

I made the mistake of springing for the retail version, don't. It doesn't come with the nice heatpipe heatsink, just a crappy one.

They've got a combo deal for the Tforce 550, I'm told its one of the better OCing boards for AM2.

Since you bought one and it's in your sig what did you overclock it to ?

I am running it with Tforce550 and Arctic alpine64. If you want to push voltage, this HSF may not be good enough, get a freezer 64 pro.

Have you tried pushing the HT higher to see if the motherboard is limiting you? I'd like to see where that mobo begins to be the limiting factor.

Never will Socket 939 die in our hearts!

Funny, now that I dont upgrade every six months not only will 939 live on in my heart but will most likely live on in my rig for at least another year or so :D

Sweet deal on a X2 3500

Great price, the Brisbane 3600+ chip can be a monster in the hands of a mighty overclocker and the right motherboard! What a bargain if you got extra DDR2 around!

Thinking of yanking the last Barton out of one of my rigs and upgrading to this cpu because it is just such a great deal!

Edit: The stock heatsink/fan is really crap still right? Sorta a no brainer since the Arctic Cooler Freezer 64 is such a bargain too, but thought I would ask.

Waiting on a new heatsink, I wouldn't attempt it with the piece of crap they included. Will post results, I bought it because its reportedly a very good overclocker.

if you are looking for a HSF and need it now and has a closing CompUSA store near you, those "Tech parts" are 30% off (i checked 2 weeks ago).
But its about the same price you go online, but you may get them 'now'.

I want this processor... However, I need a good (available) overclockable mAtx mobo. No sense getting this unless you can OC.

Best mATX overclocker for AM2 is the Abit NF-M2 nView using the Geforce6150 chipset, but I've heard that it has already gone out of production. I have one and can hit 360MHz+ HTT stable. I heard that it was discontinued because it will be replaced by a newer version with the updated Geforce7000 series chipset.

Alternately the Biostar Tforce6100-AM2 is a good overclocker. Mine goes to 330MHz HTT, which should be enough for most people. One major weakness of the board is very limited voltages, especially vDIMM. This means you'll want fast RAM that can run at or close to the default 1.8v. Many "enthusiast" RAM on the market is spec'd at 2.0v or higher, and you probably will not see good results with those on this board. Zap's mini review.

I've also heard that EPoX makes a good mATX AM2 board for overclocking, but have not had a chance to test it personally.
