AM2 Preview

So the AM2 is using DDR2. Will AMD's next chipset also use DDR2, or will they be moving on to DDR3?

There?s been no news, although early news last year pointed towards AMD next gen (REV-F) skipping DDR2 altogether in favour of DDR3, however we now know this to be false.

I think the Opteron 1207 pin Socket F will have future support for DDR3/FB-DIMM tech, hence the additional pins that will be available. Those pins could also possibly equate to future expansion of the memory controller (Quad Channel).

interesting. well if DDR3 is so close around the corner, I'm thinking that I might upgrade my A Socket to a 939, since there doesn't seem to be that much of an advantage with the AM2 and if DDR2 RAM isn't even going to be used in the next chipset than DDR2 will have no longer of a lifespan than DDR Ram.

Does that make sense?
