I doubt AM2 will clock much better simply being a different socket. the lower thermals and voltage requirement of the coming AM2 chips will boost OCs, but I would guess no more than S939 FX-60.

there will be a huge jump late this year with 65nm process shift....can't wait for Brisbane:beer:

This is why the low-voltage SFF chips are of interest.

yo...like Yonah was to Conroe;)

I think my AM2 X2 chip may have just been placed on back order status. :(

May have go with an AM2 Sempron 2800 as an interim CPU until I get the X2.

Yeah what's up with availability? Newegg still hasn't got 1 X2 in stock, and I see they are all ETA 6/30 on Monarch's site. Paperlaunch??

Edit- hhmm..same thing with zipzoomfly and ewiz. Does anyone have the AM2 X2's in stock?

Now that I have a shipping notification and tracking number for my AM2 X2 from Monarch, I'll share more details. :)

After I saw the AM2 X2s go to back order until the end of June, I called Monarch on the phone. I was told that there is a severe industry wide shortage of X2 AM2 chips (no sh!t) and that my order was also on backorder. They then informed me that they had the OEM AM2 X2s instock and that I could switch my order to one of those instead. Seeing as how they are the same chip, I agreed. Monarch also added a HSF unit at no charge. The invoice says its some some sort of Thermaltake cooler, but doesn't say anything other than that. Odds are I'll order the Zalman AM2 cooler in a while.

Edit - My AM2 X2 should arrive on 6 June, I'll be posting some more about it after I get it all put together.

Yay! I called monarch today and the guy said that the would have any retail X2 4000+'s in for a while, but he could "upgrade" me to the 4200+ OEM version for free and they would ship it right away. I asked about the 4000+ OEM's and he said they were getting some in friday. So I opt for that and they throw in a heatsink fo free. I should get the shipping notice by monday.

These new AM2 chips 'SHOULD' oc alittle better. For one, AMD has hadt o do some process tweaking to get yields up to 2.8ghz. Plus, they incorporated DSL into these cores and that in inself can help increase the frequency. Of course, do not expect anything real major. 200-400mhz more over non DSL can probably be expected.

Pretty much from the reviews i've seen, For example, 4000+ X2 would hit 3ghz around stock voltage. Anands did to I think. Or was it a 4800? I forgot where I saw the 4000+ oc at though.

But anyways, these chips should be at least on par if not better than the s939 Opty silicon.

Edit: AMD has lowered the voltage on these chips to 1.3/1.35 while the s939 chips are 1.35/1.4v. That in itself kinda gives insight that the AM2 cores contain a better silicon.

Well, I got my AM2 X2 4200 up and running. DLing windows updates now, although I should get all the Crit updates and SP2 on a CD or something. My release version of XP Pro takes a while to update.

After I get all the updates, drivers installed, etc, I'll run some benches.

Thus far, I am pleased with almost all my components. The LL PC-2000B+ is a great case to work with, the MSI K9N SLI Platinum board is very nice to work with, has a great layout, and a very good manual.

The PSU is one part I may upgrade again before too long. At present, its a Fortron 450W. However, it ran out of power connections before I could hook up the 12cm fan thats supposed to cool the PCI(e) card area on the motherboard. I was thinking of an OCZ GamerStream 700W, but I haven't decided.

Since the CPU was an OEM from Monarch, they HSF they threw in was a Thermal Take Venus 7. It does the job, right now, the CPU is idling at 41C while I DL updates and browse AT. Once more AM2 coolers filter through the market, I'll likely get a better one.

Mushkin DDR2-800, 4-4-3-10 timings. Sandra 2007 reports around 8k for memory bandwidth, don't remember the exact figure, its not a high priority benchmark for me. :p
