I'm looking to upgrade my current gaming rig which has a OC'd e6420 in a evga 680i mobo to a new quad core. After looking over the options from the new intel i7 line and the new phenom 2 line i have decided i would like to save some money and support AMD's latest efforts. The last AMD motherboard i owned was a socket 939 ASUS board that was decent but I had some issues with the overclocking options in the bios. I love my evga board and i really love their step up program and i'm curious if any AMD chipset manufacturs offer anything similar as I would like to "step up" to a AM3 board when they are released in a few months. If there is no one who offers this setup what are some good quality inexpensive motherboards that will support the Phenom 2 x4 940 that i can use until the release of the AM3 boards and the 890NB + 800SB combo for maximum overclocking and DDR3 support?

The Biostar T-series motherboards are great values. Overclocking-friendly, solid caps, (relatively) low prices. I would imagine that any reputable motherboard company should do well with the 790/SB750 combo, and in my experience the Nvidia GF8200 chipset is a good overclocker, also.

I don't know of anyone who offers a "step-up" program for motherboards.

Intel price cuts of the C2Q are imminent, and AMD will also be cutting prices on Phenoms in February.
