I buy AM2 cpus every now and then to upgrade people's systems that have like a sempron or something, and am often confused what to buy, as I want to get the best value I can.

What was the difference between AMD's energy efficient line and their business class line?

For example the Athlon X2 5000B and the 5050e, both at 2.6ghz, with the 5050e at a lower voltage and 45w versus the 5000B at a higher voltage and 65w. Otherwise the specs are identical. They're the same stepping, and released roughly the same time.

Did the business class actually perform faster for the extra power it consumes?

Thanks

exactly the same performance, probably just lower voltage or something...

also the B (black edition?) should have unlocked multiplier for overclocking (but it's no faster without overclocking)

you can find some performance difference between the 5000+ Windsor and the Brisbanes, but if you are comparing 2 Brisbanes at the same clock, performance is the same regardless of the TDP, just a difference in heat/power usage

Thanks. Just happened today on ebay 2.5ghz 4850e @ 45w cpus were listed for the same price as 2.6ghz 5000B @ 65w's. I'm going to sacrifice the 100mhz for the power savings and go with the 4850e cpus.

I tried to google benchmarks, most sites seem to have skipped over this product line and went straight to benchmarking the AM3 cpus instead, the one site I found with some of these to compare, has the 2.5ghz 4850e as ~10% faster than the 2.6ghz 5050e (i.e. not reliable for close comparisons).
