I recently upgraded my PC case from P4 1.7 512Mb RIMM to AMD Athlon 64X2 +4200 4096Mb DDR2 RAM. This was with a M2N-VM DVI mobo. Nxt upgrade was a 9600GT HDMI/DVI-I 1024Mb graphics card (together with a 650W PSU). It is pretty fast now even with the +4200. I already maxed out my SATA ports (4) & started thinking of a BD reader/burner but I either have to consolidate my smaller SATA drives onto the 1Tb or .5 Tb drives or get a new mobo that accomodates 6 SATA drives. I would also like to keep the option of SLI open to offload work from the CPU to the GPU's. (for me the PC is already flying, but I might be able to reach outer space)
For the graphics cards to function @ 100% capacity the 9600GT prefers PCIe V2.0.

I've been searching for the mobo (AM2/AM3) that has 2+ PCIe V2 slots / 6+ SATA ports & integrated audio / slots for up to 16Gb memory.

Anyone have any ideas on where to find such a thing. I can't for the life of me find that combination. & no please no Intel ideas. I may consider that after getting annoyed with something AMD & I haven't......yet.

I did see 1 MSI board that comes closest: 2 PCIe (V??) / 5 SATA / 8Gb / no audio.
All the others have 1PCIe V1.1 8X / 4 SATA / 8Gb / audio

Looks good for your needs:

Looks like you need to check the speed on some of those PCIe16 slots, otherwise, lots of choices.

NXIL thanks a lot, here in the Netherlands these mobos aren't as readily available. I will have to order one of these boards on-line. My PSU (650W) is limited to 2 12V 26A rails so I guess I can only handle 2 GPUs anyways (but then a PSU is exchanged pretty quickly [5 min or so - after power down]). For expansion possibilties I really like the ASUS you came up with (4xPCIe v2 [2*2 slots]).
