Be sure to read Gary Key's blog notes available on the front page about the issues surrounding the motherboard manufacturers short cutting design on these boards in regards to high draw CPU's....it may mean a long term upgrade path you've planned with one of these boards might not be so long term...
We'd expect boards to be on display at Computex in early June, although there are already pictures of a DFI board floating around the interweb for those that fancy some Googling.
So there is no 790g only the 780g?
I didnt know that thanks.
So what do you mean by they short cut the design of these boards??
I have heard nothing but good things about these 780g and 790FX mobo's.
LIke 95% have been able to overclock there 5000+ and 9850+ Black ED's cpu's to well over 3Ghz.
Is there still going to be another release of chipset for this socket am2+?
I am really wanting to throw together a 9850+ but with a good mobo that can handle the new amd quad that has the 6MB cach in the near future..
But like I said for now I will be using a 9850 till those newer cpu's hit.
Most 780G mbs can't handle 125W processors because of improper PWM/MOSFET (read here). So you should go for 790FX (SB600 is still weak IMO however). Another choice is nForce 780a SLI. A preview is here. It will be released in a few weeks.
yeah I read the article on the front page.
I would be so mad if I spent a couple hundred bucks and after powering up one of those new mobo's, and it just blew up that would so suck balls..
well there is no rush right now for me to get a 9850 and a new mobo I just thought I would give amd another chance since everyones gettting nice overclocks with the 9850.
I will give it another couple months and if amd and the mobo manufacturers dont straighten this crap out I will just go with intel again sigh...
By then cpu prices should have dropped a bit.
Well thanks guys for all the info glad I didnt rush out and buy one of these like I usually do.
What we all should really be pushing for is a 780GX motherboard with a 750 southbridge...now that's when AMD could finally claim chipset dominance over Intel w/o much argument.
