before trying regular linux or winlinux, check that all your hardware is compatible, if its not, how do you feel about writing drivers for linux 🙂

i have no suggestion, except check on the net if your vid is compatible.

Not sure how to help you. But when you get it up and running send me a PM and let me know how it is. I've been thinking about installing it just for the hell of it, but am not going to if it sucks.

"kernel panic" means that LILO (the Linux loader) cannot find the (root) Linux partition. I don't know how you've got your drive partitioned, but it ain't finding stuff. Did you make a boot floppy during the install? Sounds like you may need it.

naw i didnt make a disk, the linux partition is the second part of the master drive, which is alone on its ide channel, also the linux partition starts within the first 2 gigs, but windows lays out the drive letters so that the first partition of another physical drive is d, and i think when its in dos they group the partitions together first one physical then the rest of the other, and that might be throwing it off

sounds like you're gonna need the boot disk.

the problem may be that your root/boot partition extends beyond the 1024th cylinder. you'll always have to boot using the floppy...but its really no big deal, except that it takes a little longer to boot.

ok that means what?? the linux partition is beyond that point?? does it matter if i install it to a differnt physical drive, and put it in the first parition??its on a very good system for changing partitions and stuff, so if i hafta repartition i can, but ill try ,making that boot disk first

alright ill give that a try thanx, and if any one could post a place or zip with a simple linux boot disk, it'd be much appreciated
