Am in DANGER or at HIGH RISK with all the electronics in my room?

Well lets see here... face in front of a 21" monitor... body 1 foot away from 400 watt desktop = radiation hell. Seriously though, am I at risk here? High wattage speakers, cordless phone, 2 100 watt lights, 600-900 watt electric heater, about 5 cool electronic lights (black light, strobe, fibre optics, lava lamp, etc)... with all this there must be a huge radiation cloud around the room and quite frankly I'm a bit concerned about my health. Are my concerns valid?

Your desktop PC emits radiation in the microwave area, so that one can't immediately be dismissed as harmless. Monitor could be somewhat dangerous, too. But all the other things should be harmless unless you take a bath with them.

When you turn off all the lights, do you have a hard time falling asleep because of the glowing light emitting from your body?

You aught to see my room. :D

One plasma globe, two lights, one puter, one stereo /w 12" subs, 1 lava light, 1 PS2, 2 Van De Graff Generators, 3 homemade tesla coils, 2 HF generators, 3 full robots, many half started robots, 2 ozone generators, one radiometer, 2 HV multipliers for 110, one batch of sea monkeys and a venus fly trap. :)

Its a death trap for Static sensitive stuff.

Well, most pc cases(least the good metal built ones) have EMI shielding so they can meet the FCC standards. If you're really paranoid you could build a pc case enclosure(or put sheets) of lead, but that itself creates more problems(toxicity of it, how heavy it is, price, finding it) Also i remember hearing about a patch of some special fabric that you place on your cell phone that essentialy "soaks" up microwave radiation, supposedly comes from recently declassified DoD tech. Most monitors dont emit extreme ammounts OF EMI/EMF as they used to, since such standards like TCO and MPRII(forget the exact name) limit the emissions. Now buying an LCD would remedy this, but then playing games would be near impossible:(

Oh well, with all the chemical crap all around us today, i figure all this electronic radiation is the least of my worries. And since tumors take several years to develope, who knows, by then there will be advanced medical procedures to remedy the problems
(take all this with a grain of salt, I expect to be corrected here:))

oh no....
I used to leave my computer case open... am I going to get cancer?
I heard about the fabric that absorb radiation... anyone knows if it really works?

I live life on the edge and sleep under and electric blanket hehe. I wouldn't worry about the radiation as much as I would heart diseae sitting in front of the blasted thing all day long hehe.

Are you SERIOUS about computers having microwave radiation levels? Can anyone confirm this? I keep my case open most of the time which makes me more prone to the radiation... My friend's weren't kidding when they said I was getting greener by the day!

your computer emits low levels of electromagnetic radiation. you should keep your case closed because the case is a EM shield. all cases have to pass the government standard. that's why there are those holes where your fan blows instead of a grill. a grill would just let all the radiation leak out. but i don't think the computer will cause you to get radiation poisoning or anything close to that...unless you are with your comp for 20 hours a day...;)

Any form of electricity will emit some level of EMI/EMF. ITs nothing but an extremely low level of electromagnetic radiation. Its near impossible for someone to get cancer from EMI, since its so low on the spectrum theres no real effect. Of course thats up for debate since there hasnt been any real solid research on this field. I should have been more specific in my post, that there arent any microwave levels of radiation that are emitted from the pc (maybe not till we reach 2.4ghz, hehe) Theres a good article on EMI from monitors at IBM's site, dont have the exact link but do a search at google and it will turn up. Theres a really fancy way of explaining the diffrence from alpha and beta radiation and EMI, but alas talk like that makes my brain swell up like a baloon:) Maybe some of the more scientificly inclined people of anandtech would voice in

A pretty good discussion on this topic can be found here http://arstechnica.infopop.net/Open...amp;s=50009562&f=48409524&m=271097781 (im too lazy to link it) I know its arstechnica but if you wad through the trolling in that thread it can offer some insight

IMO, you guys should be more worried about next new years eve than whatever comes out of your comps :)
